त्र्यं॑बकं यजामहे सुग॒न्धिं पु॑ष्टि॒वर्ध॑नम् । उ॒र्वा॒रु॒कमि॑व॒ बन्ध॑नान्-मृत्यो॑र्-मुक्षीय॒ माஉमृता॓त् । यो रु॒द्रो अ॒ग्नौ यो अ॒प्सु य ओष॑धीषु॒ यो रु॒द्रो विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना वि॒वेश॒ तस्मै॑ रु॒द्राय॒ नमो॑ अस्तु । तमु॑ ष्टु॒हि॒ यः स्वि॒षुः सु॒धन्वा॒ यो विश्व॑स्य॒ क्षय॑ति भेष॒जस्य॑ । यक्ष्वा॓म॒हे सौ॓मन॒साय॑ रु॒द्रं नमो॓भिर्-दे॒वमसु॑रं दुवस्य । अ॒यं मे॒ हस्तो॒ भग॑वान॒यं मे॒ भग॑वत्तरः । अ॒यं मे॓ वि॒श्वभे॓षजो॒உयग्ं शि॒वाभि॑मर्शनः । ये ते॑ स॒हस्र॑म॒युतं॒ पाशा॒ मृत्यो॒ मर्त्या॑य॒ हन्त॑वे । तान् य॒ज्ञस्य॑ मा॒यया॒ सर्वा॒नव॑ यजामहे । मृ॒त्यवे॒ स्वाहा॑ मृ॒त्यवे॒ स्वाहा॓ । प्राणानां ग्रन्थिरसि रुद्रो मा॑ विशा॒न्तकः । तेनान्नेना॓प्याय॒स्व ॥

Sri Rudram also known as Rudraprasna, is a hymn devoted to lord Shiva. It is the part of Yajurveda and one of the greatest hymns for all round benefits and to remove all doshas and difficulties.

Sri Rudram is in two parts, the first part is known as Namkam because of repeated use of “Namo” in it.The second part is known as Chamkam because of repeated use of “Chame”.

The Maha Mrityunjay Mantra is taken from 11th Anuvaka of Namkam. MMM is the great mantra for conquering death for it protects against all threats and at the time of death eases the process of release. It is one of the more potent of the ancient mantras, a call for enlightenment and a practice of purifying the karmas of the soul at a deep level. It is beneficial for mental, emotional and physical health. It is also a moksha mantra which bestows longevity and immortality.

A mantra is not merely a union of letters. Their combination is a representation of inner energy. The energy within a seeker gets activated due to a mantra and acquires tremendous strength. The divine consciousness in a mantra is superior to the gross words in it. It is found that if one performs the chanting of a mantra infallibly and with assertion then one can experience the powerful energy in it and can achieve anything from detachment of greed to Self-realisation.
When Namkam and Chamkam is recited along with flow of Water or any other abhisheka material (e.g. Milk, Honey, curd, Sugarcane juice separate material for separate wish) it is called Rudra abhisheka.
