About Pashupatinath Temple

Sri Pashupatinath Temple (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर)  is Famous Hindu temple of Nepal dedicated to God Mahadev (Shiva) .... Pashupatinath Temple is also main God of Country Nepal. Lord pashupatinath is most worshipped god in Nepal. The Temple of pashupatinath is pagoda in shape (shivalaya style) with 3 storey building. There is also many god/goddess arts and Statues in each roof and storey of temple..

The Pashupatinath Jyotirlinga (shivalinga) have four face in Four direction facing towards north east west south..  It is said that pashupatinath have total 5 face. The 1 face of pashupatinath is invisible which is situated at 90 degree above four face.

The five face name of lord pashupatinath are - 

1) East face (पूर्व द्वार) - He is known as tatpurush. ( Rishi,muni,shakti and brahma,Jaggarnath)

2) South face (दक्षिण द्वार) - He is Known as Aghor. (Laxmi narayan,Rameshwaram)

3) West face (पश्चिम द्वार) - He is known as Saddojat. ( Ganesh,Dwarkadhish).

4) North face (उत्तर द्वार) - He is known as Bamdev. (ardhanareshwar/gauri shankar)

5) Fifth face (situated above of all faces) - He is known Ishan. (Tara,nakshatra,surya adi,shiva shakti,pashupatinath)

Temple of lord pashupatinath have four main gates in four direction . All four main gates of pashupatinath is made with silver.  All these four main gates will be opened every day in morning and evening time .. The East ,South and North gate of lord pashupatinath will be Closed soon and will be open for few hours only.  But West gate remain open for more time till day time 2 o clock. At day time  2 o clock west gate will also be closed. And again in evening time first west gate will be Opened. And After it rest all gate will be opened for Arati and Jal abhishek. At morning 4/5 am gate of lord pashupatinath will be opened for darshan. And at 7:30 or 7:45 pm  evening time temple will be closed.. 

There is also Many God and Goddess Temple inside Pashupatinath temple sorrounding. There is one big and small Nandi  Maharaj (bull) in front of lord pashupatinath. God nandi is vehicle of lord pashupatinath. Inside temple of lord pashupatinath no one is allowed to take camera,Leather belt and bag,plastic,Shoes etc.

Holy Bagmati River In Pashupatinath

There is also famous Bagmati river in Bank of Lord pashupatinath. Bagmati River is holy and Sacred Religious important River. In Bank of Bagmati river there is also Ganga mata mandir and Virupaksha mandir. Many devotees bath here in bagmati river before worship of lord pashupatinath. In great festival like janai purnima,shravan somvar(monday), Maha shivaratri there is crowd of devotees here in river to do snan(bath).After bathing here and being pure devotees worship lord pashupatinath.

Important festival and Day in Pashupatinath

1 ) Purnima (Full moon day)

2) Ekadashi

3) Maha shivaratri

4) dhanurmaas (in this day temple is opened at night 12 o clock,Special puja is done to lord pashupatinath,we can darshan nicely at night as well)

5) Shravan somvar (every monday in month of shravan)

6) Haritalika teej ( Festival of women, Women takes fasting of lord shiva for their husband and family)

7) Janai purnima (Raksha bandhan)

8) Krishna astami,saraswati puja etc..

9) Basleshwori jatra,Naksal bhagwati jatra etc (Rath yatra festival at pashupatinath celebrated by local people of pashupatinath)

10) Balachaturdashi festival - In this day special puja is done to pashupatinath, Priest of pashupatinath also show ek mukhi rudraksha,nag mani and other gems to devotees for few hours. we can not touch this valuable gems but it will be kept openly in glass. And we can see clearly.. After completing Public devotees darshan it will be kept in  head of pashupatinath. This day comes once in year etc....

Lord Pashupatinath (The Praisable God of Hindus)

Lord pashupatinath is Deities of Deities Great Deities (MahaDev).There is Found the Song of the Greatness in all Vaidic and Pauraheek (oldic books) Books.Especially in the sixteen chapter of Sukla Yajurveda is fulled with the Praises and Stotra(song of Praising and Saluting).One Mantras is Well Known of this Chapter where is said Praising of Sada Shiva like this. "Om Namo Shambha Bayach  Namo Bhawa Yach NamaSankayach Mayaskaraych Namah Shivayacha Shiwatarayacha". Whose Meaning is we Salute the Lord Shankar Who is Basis of World welfare,we salute the lord siva who is the cause of whole world's Pleasure and Hero,we salute the great welfare giver Lord shiva who is always welfare to Self created creation,Salute to the top welfare for all welfare's Lord Sada Shiva.

Only the Shelter-giver of the Jeeva (the Creatures who is binded by the maya or ignorance), The feeling of the Creature Lord Shree pashupatinath who is Great Praisable and Devotable to the Whole Creature-World.

Worship At Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath is worshipped in two ways

1 - Daily Worship  2- Special Worship(Pooja).

Daily Worship - The Temple door of pashupatinath that of Facing West remains open at 4 Am in early morning every day.The other three doors are open at about 9 30 Am . At Half past 9 all Four Brahmin Priest attend on Pashupatinath. The Attire of Jyotirlinga of pashupatinath is taken off and then bathed with Adikalasha,water brought from holy rivers of Nepal and India.The Linga of Pashupatinath is then bathed with the holy water the river Bagmati.

Jal or Holy water is Pinkled by the Priest on the devotees daily for three times after Arti.It is Considered  to be very Sanctimonious to have a few drops of Jal on your Body.

In the afternoon,ie between 1 to 1 30 pm the jyotirlinga of pashupatinath is elegantly adorned and is attired in gorgeous dresses. At this time Shanai(musical instrument) is Played. Arti(movement of lamp in circle) is performed by offering incence.Chamhar Pankha(Fly whisk) made of Yak's tail is also sway before the linga,Mirror is shown.

After the adomment Balbhog is offered to Pashupatinath.The Balbhog Comprises Rice,Pulse,Khir(rice pudding),Vegetables,Acchar(Chutney) etc.,Both the Balbhog and Bhog are Prepared by the Priest of pashupatinath.

In the evening the temple Door of pashupatinath are opened at about 6 Pm. Arati is offered at about   7 30 Pm.

Panchamrit Abhishek - Panchamrit Bath(snan) is Combination of Five things such as Ghiu or ghee,Sugar,honey ,curd and Milk.) offered to pashupatinath daily by Priest.Daily Panchamrit snan on pashupatinath on devotee name is also carried out.

Devotee generally offer Belpatra,flower,garland,Bel Fruits to pashupatinath.Chandan tilak by rubbing sandal wood is generally given to devotee.

Special Worship - Special Worship to Lord Pashupatinath is performed on Special Festive Occasions.Special worship takes Place on ShivaRatri day,the night of lord shiva. It start at night 9 Pm in the night of Shivaratri.

Shivaratri Panchamrit Snan- Panchamrit Snan is performed till 11 pm . Rudri is Enhanced and Bal bhog is offered.Almost the whole night Pashupatinath is Worshipped by Modes and ways.On Shivaratri Day  all the doors of pashupatinath temple are opened throughout the day and night.

On Ekadashi Day (Elevenenth day of both dark and bright fornights) and Purnima day(Full moon day) Special worship to Lord Pashupatinath are Performed.

Special Worship is Performed in Following Month;Baisakh(April/May)  worship is Done by offering

Dhagaswan (Arlemisia Sivesiana) Flowers.For the Whole Month 121 Brahmin offer holy water to pashupatinath Shivalinga.

On the Shiva Baikuntha Chaturdashi Day Worship os done by Offering one thousand leaves of Tulsi(Ocimum ) which are emerged in the Holy Bagmati river.

On the 14 th day of the dark moon fortnight of Marga(November/December) Pashupatinath is Worshipped by Adoring it with Brocade.

On the days of Festival all the lamps which are fixed in an array of Pashupatinath are lightened.

Things to Remember while entering Temple

1 - Open your shoes and keep in locker. We should not pay locker charge. It is free. Shoes is not allowed in temple

2) - We should be aware from pick pocketer and thieves. I request personally not to wear any oranament while entering any temples.

3) - It is prohibited to take leather belt,leather Bag,Plastic bag, and Camera inside Temple. Any one who is found taking camera and taking picture may be fined. And their camera will be cheased by police. So we should be aware while entering pashupatinath temple.

4) - We must ask help to guard and police if we have any things suspect inside temple like thieves,any one who is talking in mobile phone etc  etc..

Pashupatinath Abhishekam

If you wish to do pashupatinath abhishekam and Pooja with your name and family member names. You should book receipt before 1 day of your pooja time. The puja start above 1100 Rupees. In special occasion you should book receipt before week because every one organize puja at this special day so many donot get chance on this day .. The abhishekam time is morning 9 30 to 10 45 . If we have booked for our  puja and abhishekam. We must attend temple within this time. After abhishekam and puja priest of temple will give us rudraksha mala,prasadam etc.. Before getting our receipt copy and while filling form We need our gotra, family names and address to book Pooja and abhishekam..
