THE TIMELESS RIDER AND RIDE.
To describe the relationship of Nandi and Shivji, is a new paradigm in the world of Devotion.Nandi thinks of Shiva as Master, but Shiva treats Him as a great friend. Shivji does not talk in terms of Dasas ( bonded in slavery) but as Ganas( Inseparably tied in love).
Nandi cannot bear to be out of the sight of Shiva, where there is Shiva, you will always find Nandi sitting stoically at the gates, sometimes as a guard, at other times like a Vahan, a ride, waiting for its rider.And so it is that Shiva and Nandi know of each other very well. It is said that in the tragic phase of Shiva's life, between the death of Sati and the arrival of Parvati, only Nandi knew where he was, only Nandi shared the pain.This beautiful sculpture seems to herald a more joyous time, as Nandi and His God ride towards shubha, the auspicious, and Shivji's hand is raised in Abhaya mudra, betokening blessings. Aum Namah Shivaye!
