God's presence is in everything

Photo: FB574 * Lord Shiva Is Omnipresent *

One day, Lord Shiva appeared to Saint Namdev in a dream and said, "You are a good devotee of mine but you still have to learn something before you can be with me all the time. Visit the temple and meet another one of my devotees. His name is Vithoba. After that, tell me what you have learned from him." Then Lord Shiva disappeared. Namdev woke up in the morning and as per Lord Shiva's guidance, He set out to visit the temple.

         When Namdev got to the temple, he inquired about the devotee Vithoba. While He was waiting, Namdev saw an old man, sitting with his feet on the statue of Lord Shiva. Namdev could not believe that a man could disrespect Lord Shiva like that. Just then the temple priest introduced Namdev to the old man, saying that the old man was Vithoba.

         Namdev was quite confused! What could He learn from someone who was so disrespectful towards God! Just then Vithoba said, 'O Namdev, I am so old that it is difficult to even move my limbs. Please move my feet to a place where there is no God." Namdev began to move the old man's legs here and there, but wherever He put the old man's legs, Lord Shiva appeared !

         Repentant, Namdev fell to the feet of the devotee Vithoba and begged for his forgiveness. Thus, Saint Namdev learned from the devotee Vithoba that God or Lord Shiva is present everywhere in this Universe, in all living and non-living things. With this learning He soon experienced God's presence everywhere and remained with God wherever He went.

DURGA BORN AS DAKSHA'S DAUGHTER SATI

After Lord Vishnu went away, Lord Brahma started meditating on the form of goddess Durga. She appeared before him. Lord Brahma said-
"I need your help in binding Shiva with your maya."

Goddess Durga told Brahma that Lord Shiva in his incarnation of Rudra was beyond the reached of any kind of Maya. But when Brahma kept in insisting then goddess Durga agreed to help him in his effort. She said-
"I will take birth as the daughter of Daksha Prajapati and try to please him by my penance."

After assuring Lord Brahma she vanished. Lord Brahma too went to his abode.

With the permission of lord Brahma, Daksha did penance for three thousand years. As a result goddess Jagdamba appeared before him. She blessed him by saying that she would take birth as
his daughter and by her tremendous penance would attain Rudra as her husband.

But she warned Daksha that if he showed any kind of disrespect to her, she would end her life.

With the permission of lord Brahma, Daksha Prajapati created many thing just by his mental resolution. But finding the absence of any kind of evolution and development in them, he went to Brahma to take his advice.

Brahma instructed him to create by the help of copulation. Daksha Prajapati then married Asikti - the daughter of Panchajan. Ten thousand sons, including Haryasya were born to them, but all of them were directed by Narada to follow the path of salvation.
After that, Daksha married Panchajani from whom were born thousand of son, but all of them followed the path of salvation and were not interested in creation.

Narada was instructed in changing their mind.

Daksha Prajapati became very furious with Narada and cursed him to become an eternal wandered. He said-
"You will never remain at a place for long."
When lord Brahma came to know about Daksha Prajapati's anger towards Narada he went to him and cooled him down. Subsequently sixty daughters were born to Daksha.

He married his ten daughters with Dharma, thirteen daughters with Kasyap. Twenty seven daughters with Moon, two daughters with Bhutangiras, two daughters with Krishashva and the remaining six daughters with Garuda. Daksha mediated on the form of Bhagawati, and was instructed by her to do penance. Daksha did a tremendous penance and thus was born Uma to Daksha and Virani. Uma was brought up with great love and affection. Uma used to worship lord Shiva by singing devotional songs in his praise.

The most basic trait of human nature to seek happiness.

Photo: The most basic trait of human nature to seek happiness. It is amazing to see what all man does to find happiness; the list goes on and on endlessly. In reality, happiness comes from within but most seek it outside. The senses can give pleasure but the soul craves for something more. When sense pleasures are not enough, one seeks an ethereal experience. This impulse of seeking is present in everybody and is the beginning of one’s spiritual journey. Unfortunately, many people are tempted to take shortcuts in this quest for joy and end up with drugs. Drugs seem to give a high and people do say they take one to an altered state of consciousness. However, the after effects leave the system totally shattered eventually. One’s aspiration to find freedom, love and happiness leaves them with bondage, despondency and misery. Having something is not joyful but not having it is painful – this is the state of addiction.

Spirituality has a big role to play in dealing with such a situation. Meditation, breathing techniques, pranayam and satsang have helped millions around the world to overcome addiction over substances and alcohol. Many people have shared that they feel the same high after doing meditation that they used to feel after taking drugs but without their damaging consequences. Scientists say that psychoactive drugs are addictive because they cause a surge in dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with happiness and contentment. Research has shown that meditation increases dopamine levels naturally by an average of 65%. A session of group singing or satsang also leaves one exhilerated and energised for many hours. These practices build strength in the mind so that one doesn’t feel the need to rely on external substances to feel an inner high.

Another thing that is important in rehabilitation is developing an attitude of service. A ‘what more can I get’ mindset leads to obsession and depression while a ‘how can I serve’ attitude leads to joy and freedom. This shift in attitude brings a sense of purpose to anybody’s life, but more so for someone on the path to recovery. With a firm resolve and the right effort in the right direction, the old patterns of addiction begin to loosen their grip and true freedom begins to dawn.

Apart from its remedial effect in drug rehabilitation, spirituality is very effective in prevention of this malaise as well. Youth who have a spiritual bent of mind do not take to drugs easily. Spirituality builds a value-based character in a person which acts as a shield against unhealthy peer pressure.

Invariably, short term joy ends up as long term misery and it is spiritual education alone that gives the wisdom to choose a little discomfort in the short term that finally leads to long lasting happiness.

Does contentment make you lazy?

Photo: Q: Does contentment make you lazy?

Guruji : What do you think? There is a lot of difference between laziness and contentment. One who is contented has more energy. Is there energy in a lazy person?
===================

You always have the choice to do good or bad. The fruits of your deeds are good or bad according to the choice you make.
===================
It is alright to be angry, but only for a few seconds or a few minutes. But, if it surpasses days and months, it is disastrous.
===================
Heart Song

 Everyone has a song in their heart. Everyone has a reason for being here and a season for making their highest, greatest most auspicious contribution. No one knows what that is or when that is for anyone else. Only our own heart knows what and when it is for us. Your heart wants to sing. Don’t die with your music still within you.

===================

Problems should be taken as an opportunity to be prayerful, and in gratitude.

God as a Child

Can you see God as a child? You have always thought of God as a father, up in the heavens somewhere. Can you see God as a child?

God is the very core of your existence. You are pregnant with God. You have to take care of your pregnancy and deliver the child into the world. Most people do not even deliver. One who delivers can also grant wishes.

God is your child. He/She clings onto to you like a baby till you grow old and die. God keeps crying for nourishment. God clings onto the devotee. He/She needs you to nourish Him/Her in the world. Sadhana, Satsang and Seva are the nourishment.

You always think of God as a father. Then you want to demand and take from God. But when you see God as a child, you have no demands.

Student says: You cannot pray to a child; you can only pray to your father.

Guruji : Why do you want to pray? Why do you want to ask? A good father knows what to give.

Student : What about surrender?

Guruji : Your surrender to a child is more authentic as it has no demand.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR GOD! Atheists are around the corner! Doubts, disbelief and ignorance are atheists in your mind, so better take care of your God!

One can but rarely get a definite decision on any problem

Photo: "This body is like a musical instrument what you hear depends on how you play."

One can but rarely get a definite decision on any problem

At least you have understood that there is a state, ’where’ problems are no longer settled in any particular way. In the course of your life you have after careful consideration come to a decision on many questions, have you not? But now you will have to realize that no solution is ever conclusive; in other words, you will have to go beyond the level where there is certainty and uncertainty. The resolution of a problem arrived at by the mind must of necessity be from a particular point of view; consequently there will be room for contradiction, since your solution represents but one aspect. What then have you actually solved? You will find a complete and final solution of each particular question from its own particular angle of emergence; and you will also find that there is a place where all problems (actual and possible) have but one universal solution, in which there is no longer any room left for contradiction. The question of solution or non-solution will then cease to arise: whether one says ‘yes’ or ‘no’, - everything is THAT.

The World As Divine Playground

Photo:

The World As Divine Playground

The world is the Vrindavan Leela or divine playground of the Supreme. Nothing is to be shunned, for you are all the while in It (Mahanam). That you have forgotten this is the root cause of your misery. The world is real. We have come here to taste the blissful rapture of His Manifestation. By doing our duties which come from His will, we relish His love and bliss.

Brahmn is manifestation and Brahmnmayi is part of it; Creation began with them. Why not accept the saying, ``God in His Supreme playfulness, by mere resolve, has been inclined to create the worlds and they were created forthwith.'' The world is not non-existent, for only on this earth human beings can savour Divinity . That being so, how can the world be illusory? Whatever you may call it, Maya or Yogamaya, it also has an Existence. It also is a manifestation of Supreme Energy .

But the strength to make progress on the path of emancipation, realisation and salvation out of the hold of this Maya, is also given by Him. The spiritual world is a reality and not a figment of imagination.

Substance is One. You talk about materialism and spiritualism. Try to change your vision.

Then everything will be clear. Just imagine the origin of this universe, dive deep into the fundamental. This universe as we find it today is the result of a long process of steady evolution. You proceed from the general to the particular. Realise that Absolute Truth. There is a stage even before sound. But ultimately , the general and the particular become identical.

There are so many worlds...same thing. All temporary , everything is temporary . All worlds are mutually exclusive. How can one go from one to another? All worlds are interrelated. So, if there be unrest on earth, that will invade regions like the heavens also.

The world is an organic whole. The solar system can be penetrated in a moment's thought. Science is able to create space vehicles and go to the moon. It can also go to other planets. There is nothing new in this. It is Mahajnana (Supreme Knowledge) that flows along, encircling the countless worlds.

Manifestation of God is the universe. The world is an escapable reality . Space and time each have infinite dimensions. Every segment of space is present in every other segment.
Every split second also is present in every other second. So, space and time are both ubiquitous. In fact, time is a ceaseless duration and space an unfettered expanse.

Matter is One. Indistinguishable, it wears different looks on different occasions. There is no dichotomy of matter and spirit. They are one Integer; that is the sole reality. The new year of the calendar is a human creation.

In mind is the space-time complex, but He is beyond time and space. The mind gets fullness of right vision or enlightenment when, while being in this body , it becomes conscious of Him. Then, that moment is mind's New Year, a new birth of light.

In that state, one loses the boastful I-sense in one's activities and even if the senses and desires drive the mind, the bridle is held by the Lord Himself, or the Nam, so that one cannot . go astray . But nobody feels grateful that He, . All-merciful, continuously showers His Grace on beings.

The one who can fully relish and utilise the present, without worrying about present, past and future, he really enjoys the state of Vraja, His Love.

Wisdom or the inner light is like the legendary precious stone, O Rama, which bestows on its owner whatever he wishes to have. When one's intelligence and understanding are properly guided by this inner light, one reaches the other shore of this world-illusion easily. One who does not have this wisdom, is overcome by obstacles and drowns in world-illusion.

THE DESTROYER

“Now, tell me”, said the Yogi, “how am I supposed to destroy the world?”
By opening your third eye, wherever you shift your gaze then, turns to ashes.” Answered the snake
“Mythologically” , said the Yogi. “ Now, listen to the philosophy. At the personal level, the destruction of illusions, makes the meditator enlightened. This is the opening of Gyan Chakshu, this is the whole path of the yogis! The gaze of the discriminating mind destroys wrong previous concepts and illusions. Whatever scriptures such a man reads, he interprets rightly, whatever situation he encounters, he understands. The mind of spiritual discrimination destroys falsehood and delusion.
At the transpersonal or cosmic level, I am a paradox however. My capability is to destroy the whole cosmic play. But, if I use only half my power, to destroy the destructive processes themselves, verily, I become the course for expansion. So using half your power doubles your strength. It also takes double your strength to use half your power. Meditate upon this!”, said the Yogi.

A DEEP REMEMBRANCE

Photo: A DEEP REMEMBRANCE

I found this picture on the net a year ago.
It was very Evocative , a lot of thoughts arose- who was this visiting a Shivlinga?
Was it Shiva Himself?
or then a yogi who was of near in appearance to His Lord?
if it was Shiva, what was he doing?
was he checking to see who His bhakts were, in the temple?
was He gracing a pious Ocassion with His darsana?
Or was He Himself Meditaing in His own Mandir?

God is infinite, infinite His Lila and glory. So then, the answer can be all of these!
A yogi visiting His Beloved Shiva .
Shivji visiting for a darshan.
Shivji meditating in front of his own Shivlinga.
The Sagun form in meditation of the Nirgun.
Like a recharge, or a recap. In God's lila, it happens. Guru Vashist revised for Ramji His Godhood, and Guru Sandeepan did for Krishan ji.
All is possible, with God, all things are possible.
God is Omnipresent, he is everywhere, but yes, even he loves the places where others have gathered in His name.
There is also a sacred mention of Shivji visiting some places of worship after Sati died, places where Sati used to go to... in the deepest remembrance of Shivji, who then went there Himself, in the deepest remembrance of her.
That Is a beautiful story which i will be telling in My forthcoming book SHIVA.

Are we all one?

Photo: "If there is peace in your mind you will find peace with everybody. If your mind is agitated you will find agitation everywhere. So first find peace within and you will see this inner peace reflected everywhere else. You are this peace. You are happiness, find out. Where else will you find peace if not within you?"

 ==========================

Reason is reeling in the known. Faith is adventuring in the unknown. Reason is repetition and routine. Faith is exploration and adventure.

==========================

I Don't Know

We think all the knowledge can be captured in this little brain of ours. We think we can reason out, we can understand all that exists but this feeling “I know it all” can keep us in a little shell of dullness. “I don’t know” creates wakefulness. You need to be awakened - "What is this? - I don’t know!". This “I don’t know” is the key to progress in knowledge.

============================

If you keep overworking this machine of analytical thinking, it will break down. So, you need to balance. Meditation is maintenance or servicing of your intellectual machinery. Don’t discard it. We never say, ‘Don’t analyse, lock your intellect!’ Absolutely not! You must use your intellect the maximum, but time and again, you must service it.

============================

Q: Are we all one?

The word "Shiva" in Sanskrit means highest good

Photo: The word "Shiva" in Sanskrit means highest good

The very purpose of murti puja (idol-worship) in Indian Culture is to enable the masses to access and imbibe the teachings and inspirations of divine emanations. Every idol, every symbol of God’s manifestation represented here is indicative of some important teaching related to the spiritual evolution of human consciousness. Today, I gave you the example of Shankar (Shiva) in this context and tried to explain the principles, the occult implications of His worship and devotion. Unfortunately, we often get engrossed in worshipping the gross form – the idol of God and consider the performance of some customary rituals, chanting of some prayers etc as all that is required for His devotion. Even if we have read or heard about the occult significance of the symbols of divine manifestations, we don’t seem to remember anything. We just want to take shortcuts and regard ourselves great devotees simply by symbolic worship.

The word "Shiva" in Sanskrit means highest good. Lord Shiva (Shiva) is the presiding Deity of eternal, auspicious well-being of all creation. But we, the so-called worshippers of Shiva never even think of global good. (Forget about global, we don’t even attempt to expand the narrow domain of our selfish interests and engage ourselves in altruistic service and upliftment of the needy around us). We keep chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" but don’t bother to know its meaning; in reality, Shiva (Shiva) is far away from our lives. We don’t even know what is the true well-being of our soul or our own life and how to attain it? The japa (rhythmic chanting) of Shiva’s name will be beatifying if "Shiva" (Highest Good) is embodied in our attitude, aspirations, thoughts and deeds. It is time we realize that worshipping only the external, gross form is no better than not doing anything at all.

Become A Citizen Of The World

Be suspicious of convention. Take charge of your own thinking. Rouse yourself from the daze of unexamined habit. Popular perceptions, values and ways of doing things are rarely the wisest. Many pervasive beliefs would not pass appropriate tests of rationality. Conventional thinking its means and ends is essentially uncreative and uninteresting. Its job is to preserve the status quo for overly self-defended individuals and institutions.

On the other hand, there is no inherent virtue in new ideas. Judge ideas and opportunities on the basis of whether they are life giving or not. Give your assent to that which promotes humaneness, justice, beneficial growth, kindness, possibility and benefit to the human community .

Examine things as they appear to our own mind; objectively consider what others say, and then establish your own convictions. Socially taught beliefs are frequently unreliable. So many of our beliefs have been acquired through accident and irresponsible or ignorant teaching. Many of these beliefs are so deeply ingrained that they are hidden from our own view. The commonplace sluggishness of the lives lived by the undisciplined is dangerously contagious, for we are often exposed to no alternative healthful way of living.

Awaken and be vigilant. Take stock of your habits to preserve your higher standards.

Many people declare with all sincerity that they are committed to their own integrity, while engaging in thoughtless or intemperate actions. They proceed willy-nilly, undercutting their otherwise well-intentioned efforts by failing to face themselves and to articulate a coherent personal moral code to which their future actions would conform. Don't listen to what people say . Watch what they do and evaluate the attendant consequences.

Just as we must clean, order and maintain our homes to move forward with anything; we need to do the same with our minds. For not only do we risk inefficiency by failing to do so, we invite our soul's very corruption.

A disorganised, foggy soul is dangerous, for it is valuable to the influence of better organised by unsavoury influences.

Trust nothing and nobody but yourself.

Be carelessly watchful over your beliefs and impulses.

The difference between the instructed and the ignorant is that the wise know that the virtuous are invincible. They aren't tricked and provoked by the way things appear to be.

The instructed respect the kinship we share with the ultimate and thus comport themselves as a compassionate self-aware citizen of the universe. They understand that the wise life, which leads to tranquillity, comes from conforming to nature and to reason.

One cannot pursue one's own highest good without at the same time necessarily promoting the good of others. A life based on narrow self interest cannot be esteemed by any honourable measurement. Seeking the very best in ourselves means actively caring for the welfare of other human beings. Our human contract is not with the few people, with whom our affairs are most immediately intertwined, nor to the prominent, rich, or well educated, but to all our human brethren.

View yourself a citizen of a worldwide community and act accordingly.

Sri Navaratna - The Nine Gems..

Photo: Sri Navaratna - The Nine Gems..

Navaratna, literally a Sanskrit compound word meaning "Nine Gems".

Translation:

* 1) Ruby for the Sun,

* 2) Pearl for the Moon,

* 3) Coral for Mars,

* 4) Emerald for Mercury,

* 5) Yellow sapphire for Jupiter,

* 6) Diamond for Venus,

* 7) Blue sapphire for Saturn,

* 8) Hessonite for Rahu (the ascending node of the Moon)

* 9) Cat's eye for Ketu (the descending node of the Moon)

[These gems must be high-born (top quality) and Flawless ]

According to Hindu astrology, life on earth is influenced by the navagrahas, or nine influencers. The placement of the navagrahas in one's horoscope supposedly have an influence throughout an individual's life. Wearing the nine gems is said to provide an astrological balance and benefit to the wearer. Hindu astrology also says that these gems potentially may have both positive or negative influences on human life, and that astrological gems should be worn only after consulting a Vedic astrologer, who is also conversant with gems. Based on an individual's Sidereal horoscope, either a single gem or a combination of compatible gems is advised to be worn to harness beneficial planets or counteract harmful planets.

What happens after we die?-3

Scientists' Theory

Scientists have a new theory to explain the phenomenon. They say such experiences happen when the quantum substances forming the soul ‘leave’ the nervous system and enter the universe. Dr Stuart Hameroff of the University of Arizona claims that the essence of our souls is contained in microtubules within the brain cells. These dissipate into the universe when the heart stops, and return if the patient is resuscitated.

It's Chemistry Once Again

Yet others say that near-death experiences are a psychological phenomenon, a result of chemical changes in the brain.

A Turning Point

Going back to the lady in ICU. She says: "My ‘death’ proved to be the turning point in my life. Up until this point, I had spent my life worrying about what other people thought of me. As I recovered, I made a pledge that half-friendships and fair-weather friends were no longer enough. I stopped seeing the people I didn’t truly love, and told the ones I did just how much they meant to me, never forgetting for a moment just how lucky I was...I will never be able to understand or explain what happened to me on that fateful day nine years ago. But I no longer harbour a fear about death. At the same time, I have stopped being scared of life. I’ve never looked back since."

Hope Floats

Just hearing others speak of an afterlife infuses us with hope and accepting the concept of death makes us value each day of life more, doesn't it?

From Afterlife To Reincarnation

From afterlife, one comes to the topic of reincarnation, as in Hinduism, the soul is believed to travel across various planes of existence before returning back to the earth plane in one form or another. The situation of birth is said to be decided by one's karma, one's unfulfilled desires and one's unlearnt lessons...

Preserving The Dead...For Afterlife?

Ancient Egyptians famously preserved their dead by embalming them with various chemicals, which miraculously preserved the dead body for centuries afterwards. These bodies were known as "mummies". While the ancient Egyptians regarded this process as respecting their dead, modern-day thinkers thought just the opposite and this process has discontinued over time.

Hierarchy In Death

The Egyptians believed that when they died, they would make a journey to another world where they would lead a new life. They would need all the things they had used when they were alive, so their families would put those things in their graves. Egyptians paid vast amounts of money to have their bodies preserved properly. Egyptians who were poor were buried in the sand whilst the rich ones were buried in a tomb. The royals were preserved inside grand tombs, known as pyramids.
