Huge Lord Shiva Statue at Kailash Dham Temple, Bishangarh, Jalore district of Rajasthan. Earlier village Bishangarh was known as Betu. It lies 15 km north of Jalore town. Apart from famous Kailash Dham Lord Shiva Temple, There are few more temples in this village. Ichhapurna Hanuman Temple, Jain Temples which are 60 years old! Har Har Mahadev Shambhu!

He and Ravanna were on the battlefield ready to fight. On the one hand was Ravanna, riding in a splendid chariot with an army of cavalry infantry, chariots and elephants. Opposing him was Rama, without a chariot. Vibhishan Ravanna's brother who was Rama's devotee noticed this and asked out of loving concern "My Lord, you have neither chariot nor even shoes to protect your feet, nor armour. How then, can you expect to conquer this mighty hero?' 'Listen, my friend, the chariot which leads to victory is unique. Diligence and fortitude are its wheels, truth is its enduring banner and right conduct is its standard. Meditation on God is the expert driver, non-attachment the shield and contentment the sword. Charity and good works is the sharp axe, determined intellect is the fierce lance and highest-wisdom is the sturdy bow. A pure and focussed mind is the quiver whose arrows are control of senses, tranquillity and steady endeavour according to spiritual laws. If someone doesn't have such a chariot he can't win. There is no other equipment which can lead to victory. My friend, he who possesses this chariot of spirituality will not have an enemy in the world to conquer. Anyone who possesses such a strong chariot can even conquer that terrible, invincible foe, the world, in which the individual soul has been wandering since time immemorial."

As he is always, constantly engaged in My service, similarly, I am also engaged always in his service," says the lord. ‪Just like we become devoted, similarly, God also becomes devoted to us. Don't think that it's one sided devotion. Just like love is never one sided. Love is reciprocation. Similarly, although God is great, He becomes a devotee of the devotee. He takes pleasure in that way. "I also try to devote Myself for his service." As we take pleasure in serving God, similarly, God also takes pleasure in serving us. That is reciprocation. So rest assured that he will never leave you. HE is your rock, your fortress, your saviour. He is faithful and will always guard you against the evil. You will never know how many times actually he has protected you. He has always shielded you against dangers. He never leaves you, It's you who forgets to realise this! Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai

The enormous temple complex is dedicated to Shiva, known here as Sundareshvara and his consort Parvati or Meenakshi. The original temple was built by Kulasekara Pandya, but the entire credit for making the temple as splendid as it is today goes to the Nayaks. The Nayaks ruled Madurai from the 16th to the 18th century and left a majestic imprint of their rule in the Meenakshi - Sundareswarar Temple. The temple complex is within a high-walled enclosure, at the core of which are the two sanctums for meenakshi and Sundareshwara, surrounded by a number of smaller shrines and grand pillared halls. Especially impressive are the 12 gopuras. Their soaring towers rise from solid granite bases, and are covered with stucco figures of dieties, mythical animals and monsters painted in vivid colours.

Temple Towers

There are 12 temple towers(Gopurams). The outer towers are the landmarks of Madurai. They are:  East Tower (Nine Storeys). Height 161'3". This Gopura has 1011 sudhai figures.   South Tower (Nine Storeys). Height 170'6". This Tower has 1511 sudhai figures.   West Tower (Nine Storeys). Height 163'3". This Tower has 1124 sudhai figures.   North Tower (Nine Storeys). Height 160'6". This Tower has  lesser figures of sudhai than other outer towers.

Gopura

Pyramidal gates(gopuras) rise to a height of more than 50m. These towering gateways indicate the entrance to the temple complex at the four cardinal points, while lesser gopuras lead to the sanctums of the main dieties.

Stucco Work

The figures of dieties on the tower are repaired, repainted and ritually reconsecrated every 12 years.

Ashta Shakthi Mandapam

A visitor who enters the temple through the eastern gateway, first enters this Mandapam(Hall). It was built by Thirumalai Nayakar's wives Rudrapathi Ammal and Tholimamai. In this hall food was once  distributed to the devotees who came from far off places. Next to this hall is the Meenakshi Nayaka Mandapa, a spacious columned hall used for shops and stores. This hall has a votive lamp-holder with 1,008 lamps, which are lit on festive occasions and present a spectacular sight. The sculptures on the pillars here relate some of Lord Shiva's Thiruvilayadals (miracles) and also the story of  Meenakshi's birth and her life as the princess of Madurai.  The story descripted on the stones is as follows:  Malayadwaja Pandya, a king of Madurai , was childless for a long time. He performed a number of yagnas (sacrifices made before a sacred fire) because he wanted an heir to his throne. On one occasion, a three-year-old girl came out of the fire and Malayadwaja adopted her. But the girl had three breasts and this worried Malayadwaja. However, a divine voice assured him that the third breast would disappear as soon as she met her consort. The girl grew into a brave and beautiful princess. she won many battles, but eventually lost her heart to Lord Shiva, when she met him on the battle-field in Kailas. As soon as she saw him, her third breast disappeared and she recognized her divine consort, for the princess was none other than Shiva's wife, Parvathi. After ruling over the Pandya kingdom for a while, they settled in the Madurai temple as Meenakshi and Sundareswarar.

Meenakshi Nayakkar Mandapam

This big hall is adjacent to Ashta Shakthi Mandapam, consisting of 110 pillars carrying the figures of a peculiar animal with a lion's body , and an elephant's head called Yalli.

Potramaraikulam (golden lotus tank)

This temple tank  is an ancient tank where devotees take bath in the holy water. The area around this tank was the meeting place of the TamilSangam - the ancient academy of poets. The history of the sangam goes back to the days when gods dallied with men. This academy judged the worth of any work of literature presented before it by throwing it into the tank. Only those that did not sink were considered worthy of attention. The tank is surrounded by a pillared corridor. Steps lead down to the tank, enabling worshippers to take bathe in it.

Oonjal  Mandapam

The Oonjal (swing) Mandapam and Killikoontu (parrot cage) Mandapam are on the western side of the tank. Every Friday, the golden idols of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar are seated on the swing in the Oonjal Mandapam and hymns are sung as the deities gaily swing to and fro. The parrots in the Kilikoontu Mandapam have been trained to repeat Meenakshi's  name. But more interesting are the 28 pillars of the mandapam which exhibit some excellent Sculptures of figures from Hindu mythology.

Swami Sundareswarar Shrine

Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva) the consort of Goddess Meenakshi is to the north of Kilikoontu Mandapam . On your way you can worship a gigantic idol of Sri Ganesh called Mukkurini Pillaiyar. When the king Thirumalai Nayakar excavated a temple tank 3 km from Meenakshi temple he unearthed this idol of Vinayaka and erected the same here.  In the outer pragaram (corridor outside the main shrine) there is stump of the kadamba tree, which is said to be a part of the same tree under which Indra worshipped Shiva linga. Also in the outer corridor there are the Kadambathadi Mandapam and big hall called 'Velli Ambalam'. Here, an idol of Nataraja (Shiva as the Lord  of Dance)  is seen. This idol of Nataraja is covered with silver leaves. Hence this hall is named as Velli Ambalam (Silver Hall)..

The Thousand Pillar Mandapam

It is the 'wonder of the palace'. Actually the number of  pillars count to 985 beautifully decorated columns. Each pillar is sculptured and is a monument of the Dravidan sculpture. There is a Temple Art Museum in this 1000 pillars hall where you can see icons, photographs, drawings, etc., exhibiting the 1200 years old history. There are so many other smaller and bigger mandapams in the temple. Just outside this mandapam ,towards the west, are the Musical Pillars. Each pillar when stuck, produces a different musical note. The kalyana mandapa, to the south of the pillared hall, is where the marriage of Shiva and Parvati is celebrated every year during the Chitirai Festival in mid- April.

Vasantha Mandapam

This mandapam was built by Thirumalai Nayakkar. Vasanthosavam - the  Spring festival-is celebrated in this mandapam in Vaikasi (April/May). Its pillars contain elaborate sculptures of Shiva, Meenakshi, scenes from their wedding as well as the figures of ten of the Nayak Kings and their consorts. This is also called Pudhu Mandapam.

How can one define something that is self-‪#‎luminous‬, ‪#‎eternal‬,‪#‎indivisible‬, ‪#‎pure‬, ‪#‎beginning‬ less, ‪#‎endless‬, ‪#‎unborn‬, ‪#‎imperishable‬. Lord Shiva is Para-Shakti (supreme power) that is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. Lord Shiva is a state of Eternal Bliss – Chaitanya (Supreme Consciousness). He is Sagun and Sakar (with form and qualities). He also is a formless, quality-less (Nirakar, Nirgun). Lord Shiva is an infinite energy force that keeps the whole Universe in order. Lord Shiva is our soul, our Aatma, within us! And Maya is the illusion of mind, Maya creates division & takes us away from lord Shiva . Soul has a choice - it can go in either Maya's direction and continues to remain in miserable state! Surrender!! Yes, Remove the veil of maya! liberate from the bondage and unite with the Lord Shiva for ever! Maya obscures the truth, let it not take us away from Lord Shiva ! Yes, Lord Shiva is soul, Lord Shiva is bliss, attained with purity of thought, speech and the actions. See him not with eyes, but with Sadhana, with strong faith. Experience him! Union with HIM should be your only Goal. Yes realise him, Recognise Self. He is Nirgun, Nirakar! He is within you! You can see him in any form. Choice is yours. Realise him through Bhakti and Sadhana. He is life and bliss. He is the only reality. Many paths to same goal, one supreme! Shiva!! Peace ~ Shivoham Shivoham!!!

God is not only technology and adventure. He is more evident in His attributes of love and kindness. These constitute the moorings, the anchorhoods of God.
God the ship awaits better anchorage, to explore newer seas; for who knows how deep the new harbours may be, who knows how fantastic our technology may become. Understand this mystic secret: to explore great Oceans your mooring needs to be good, to fly to the sky you need to be grounded! Thus too in the confluence between modern science and the natural life, our foundations must be strong, not to get overwhelmed by success in the external world. But, if man cannot remain stable even with the present technology, how will he cope with the further adventures of God? The absence of love and kindness, that is, inadequate anchorage, becomes a reason for God, to dock Himself”.

And then, there is further culmination of malevolence and sorrow, more conflict, and, we begin to wonder whether God is? thought the snake.

Selfless Teaching Yields Results

There was a king who had five sons. However, they had a hard time learning anything. They did not take their work seriously, clowned around, and did not want to learn a single thing.

One day, the king sat down with his queen and discussed what they should do with their children. After all, one day one of them would have to succeed him and he did not want to entrust his kingdom to an uneducated son. They had tried many tutors, but with no result.

The royal couple announced that anyone who could educate their sons would be rewarded with one-half of the kingdom. One after the other, teachers, tutors, scholars, and learned people came forward to educate the five princes. But each one left disappointed. The princes simply refused to learn anything.

The king and queen were frustrated. One day, a renowned scholar and teacher came to the palace and asked the king’s permission to try to teach the boys. The king agreed and the teacher tried something new; he taught them by telling them interesting stories, which captivated them.

The boys enjoyed the stories. Four months passed. They looked forward to their lessons with the teacher. But at the end of the four months, when the teacher tested them, he found not one of them remembered a single story. They would enjoy the stories for the moment, but nothing was sinking in. So the teacher tried another approach. This time, after telling the boys a story, he told them that if they wished to hear another one, they had to retell the story to each other as a way to remember it. He warned them that if they could not retell the story, they would not be told any more stories.

The sons started listening more attentively to the stories, but not enough to remember the story. Finally, the teacher took the princes to a well.

“Look at this pulley made of rope with a stone tied to the end of one side of the pulley and a bucket on the other side. When the stone is thrown in the water it pulls up the bucket.” said the teacher. “See how over time the rope has made a deep impression on the stone. Just as the rope made a mark on the stone, I want you to go over each story mentally again and again until you remember each one. The stories should make a mark on your minds.”

The princes, wanting to hear more stories, did what the teacher told them to do. By repeating each story over in their minds, they eventually were able to learn the stories. With time their attention improved and they could learn whatever the teacher taught them.

The king was delighted with the teacher’s results. He offered the teacher half the kingdom. But the teacher refused.

The teacher said, “O great king, I am a teacher. What have I to do with owning and ruling a kingdom? I get my joy from teaching. I am satisfied that I have done my duty.” With this he went on his way.

This attitude of the teacher is similar to those held by the great spiritual teachers who come to this world. Their job is to help wayward souls learn. They are satisfied if they can educate us in spiritual truths. If we look at the lives of Buddha, Christ, Guru Nanak, Prophet Mohammed, Mahavira, Moses, and other great saints, we find that they gave of themselves selflessly.

Five Dimensions Of Learning

Our education system ought to teach us how to live.

Education that has prevailed in the past is very insufficient, incomplete and superficial. It only creates people who can earn their livelihood but it does not give any insight into living itself. It is not only incomplete, it is harmful too, because it is based on competition. Any type of competition is violent deep down, and creates people who are unloving. Their whole effort is to be achievers — of name, of fame, of all kinds of ambitions. Obviously, they have to struggle and be in conflict. That destroys their joys and that destroys their friendliness. I divide education into five dimensions.

The Five Dimensions

The first is informative, like history, geography, and many other subjects which can be dealt with by television and computers together.

The second part should be sciences. They can be imparted by television and computer too, but they are more complicated, and human guides are more necessary.

In the first dimension also come languages. Every person in the world should know at least two languages; one is his mother tongue, and the other is English as an international vehicle for communication. They can also be taught more accurately through television — the accent, the grammar, everything can be taught more correctly than by human beings.

We can create in the world an atmosphere of brotherhood: language connects people and language disconnects too. There is right now, no international language. This is due to our prejudices. English is perfectly capable, because it is known by more people around the world on a wider scale.

But it is absolutely necessary to create two languages — first, the mother tongue, because there are feelings and nuances which you can say only in the mother tongue. One international language is absolutely necessary as a basis for one world, for one humanity. The second is the enquiry of scientific subjects, which is tremendously important because it is half of reality, the outside reality.

The third will be the art of living. People have taken for granted that they know what love is. They don’t know...and by the time they know, it is too late. Every child should be helped to transform his anger, hatred and jealousy into love.

A sense of humour is important, too. Our so-called education makes people sad and serious. And if one-third of your life is wasted in a university in being sad and serious, it becomes ingrained; you forget the language of laughter — and the one who forgets the language of laughter has forgotten much of life.… A reverence for life should be the foundation of the third dimension and the realisation that life is godliness and there is no other god than life itself.

The fourth dimension should be that of art and creativity: painting, music, craftsmanship, pottery, masonry — anything that is creative. All areas of creativity should be allowed; students can choose. There should be only a few things compulsory — for example, an international language should be compulsory; a certain capacity to earn your livelihood should be compulsory; a certain creative art should be compulsory. You can choose through the whole rainbow of creative arts, because unless a man learns how to create, he never becomes a part of existence, which is constantly creative. By being creative, one becomes divine; creativity is the only prayer.

And the fifth dimension should be the art of dying. It will include meditations, so that you can know there is no death and you can become aware of an eternal life inside you. This should be absolutely essential, because everybody has to die; nobody can avoid it. And under the big umbrella of meditation, you can be introduced to Zen, to Tao, to yoga, to Hassidism, to all kinds and all possibilities that have existed, but which education has not taken any care of.

The importance of learning from the great classics and the need for role models

In every university, the library occupies a prominent position. Many of the greatest writers of our time, people who moulded the thought of our country, were students all their lives, pursuing their studies in libraries. Nothing opens out your mind, broadens your horizon, as reading the great classics. Spend some time every day in the study of the classics, to take your thoughts away from the hurly-burly of politics, from the rough and tumble where we are lost in excitement and passion. We must be in a position to decide all issues with calmness, with composure and with good judgement. For that, there can be no greater preparation than an hour of study of the great classics.

Appeals To All

A classic is strictly a contemporary work. It is meant for all generations. It is not meant merely for the time in which it was written. When you open a classic, you will find there a sense of discrimination, a sense of judgement. You yourself grow; you are endowed with new eyes with which to look at the world. That is the true purpose of a classic.

In this poison tree of samsara, there are two fruits of inestimable value which have nectar quality: the tasting of the flavour of the classics and communion with great men. A university must bring the two together, must house the classics; it must also collect men of greatness of spirit so that the students by their study of the classics and communion with great professors and great celebrities who are bought together, get truly educated and civilised so far as their behaviour is concerned. Anger, greed, and jealousy are the baser side of our nature. These are things which we have to control. We can control them effectively and efficiently by the study of these things.

It is not necessary for us to think that science gives us this, art gives us that and literature gives us a third. The house of knowledge cannot be divided against itself. It is one indivisible whole. It is a particular spiritual direction — prayojanam tattva darshanam — of the shastras. All the sciences enable us to probe a little into the mystery of reality. Science is imaginative adventure; it is an adventure of the human mind to understand a little more of the mysteries that surround us. So also in literature: it gives us moral insight; it enables us to know the feeling and passions of men; it tells us what we should avoid, what we should not.

Nation-builder

A great writer, Thucydides, writing about the Peloponnesian War, warns us against the seductive nature of love of power and he tells us that if we succumb to its temptations, great men and great nations, both succumb, both fall down, both become prostrate. What builds up a nation are good qualities of humanity, fellowship and compassion; what destroys a nation are hatred, greed, suspicion and jealousy. Fellowship makes for life; lack of fellowship makes for death. In every individual you have chords of fortitude, heroism, passion and the capacity to lay down life for an abstract idea or a great cause. We must also give youth the right kind of leadership. If we have both great leadership and service, our country will become a great one.

If you keep saying that you are sick or ill, guess what, you will stay sick or ill.
If you keep saying you can't stand your car, your car could be stolen or just stop operating.
If you keep saying you're broke, guess what? You'll always be broke.
If you keep saying you can't trust a man or trust a woman, you will always find someone in your life to hurt and betray you.
If you keep saying you can't find a job, you will remain unemployed.
If you keep saying you can't find someone to love you or believe in you. Your very thought will attract more experiences to confirm your beliefs

Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE.
Look Ahead and Move on.
When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.
When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you!
WORRYING does not take away tomorrows' TROUBLES, it takes away today’s' PEACE.

Don’t forget to live the life that still exists….
