"Sham Mangalam Karoti Iti Shiva" ~ Sham Means Mangalam, Karoti means that which creates Mangalam, or in other words that which creates Auspiciousness. Shivas presence creates Auspiciousness everywhere. Shiva means PURE, THE AUSPICIOUS ONE. Shiva is defined as Sham mangalam karoti iti Shiva. Shiva is the one who brings auspiciousness (mangalam or mangal). Shiva also means kalyankaari atman or Brahman as Adi Shankara says in Atma Shatakam and as said in Guru Gita that there is no difference between Shiva and Guru Tatva. Shiva represents three powers, Shaktis- strengths. Iccha Shakti, kriya Shakti, vidya Shakti. Iccha Shakti means his Intention is beautiful. His intention is to destroy the Ratri or darkness in us. The literal meaning of Shankar is one who blesses everybody with peace - Sham Karoti Iti Shankaram.!
