By all means, verify, double verify, triple verify.
Doubt as much as you need to and keep asking questions.There will be times that what you know might be wrong, and that is good, because it means you are actively discovering, and further discovering.
Your guru, your pandit, might be misinformed. If their information is flawed, then what you know is flawed, which is why it is good to always ask and discover from all over the place.
Blind faith is for the lazy, blind faith stops us from knowing, questioning, discovering.
If you truly are a bhakti of Shiva, then keep discovering.
Remember, Shiva is ENLIGHTENMENT.
