We are born

so we must live.

so we go to school

and then on to higher and higher schooling

till we get to University.

So, somewhere the idea is to become a Universal citizen.

But the experience of life is that the ' Satchel never comes off our back'

When we are done with the Satchels and School bags and College kits , and land ourselves a job, the Office hands us a new bag, saying " Here's your laptop"

And then that bag becomes an extension of us ;

And ironically, we are always in it's lap.

And so it goes on, even after we are married, have kids, raise a family; there is always a bag of duties and expectations, norms and procedures. And thus our idea of Universal transforms into everyone doing the same 9 to 5 routine with their bags, for survival.

And there aren't any exceptions, whether you are an office executive, doctor, teacher, lawyer, artist, sportsman or even a filmstar- you have your bag handed out to you by the world.

Shaivism understands this 'Universal 9 to 5 routine ' to be Karma mala and Mayayi mala. Something we have to do ( Karma ) in a particular way ( Maya). It is a role play but not the real actor Himself. And as time passes by, the actor forgets his real self and begins to think he is the role he is playing, and his world becomes a big stage where everyone is universally playing out their roles.And we get used to carrying " Baggage" all the time.

The Shaivite rishis were taught by Shiva in His Siva Sutras that the real understanding of Universal does not happen by Karma and Maya,but by Dhyana and Samadhi:

Universal is when your Atma reveals itself to you and you know without a doubt and for ever that you are a timeless part of God.

SHIVA CREATES FROM HIS THIRD EYE

Lord Shiva has two eyes just like us, with which He sees the sky,

the mountains, trees, birds , dogs, cats, and people- the same way we do. He also sees things like buildings, cars, chairs, tables , books and toys with these two eyes. We can see so many things with our two eyes!

But can we see ourself with our two eyes? No we cannot, unless we are in front of a mirror. So, Shivji keeps a third eye in His forehead, with which He can see Himself.

How wonderful to be able to see yourself, isn’t it?

But here's the real magic:

Shiva actually creates the whole Universe from His third eye, and this Universe, having come from Him, is essentially the same as Him. So when Shiva looks at the Universe, it is as if God is taking a selfie!

Therefore, the ancient rishis tell us, our role is to be mindful of our great origin, and let that awareness guide our motives, thoughts and actions.

Benefits of Worshipping Kali – Significance, Story and Worship

 

Goddess Kali

Goddess Kali is an important female deity of Hinduism. She is also known as Kalika and possesses destructive powers and so is also known as “Dark Mother.” The name Kali originates from the Sanskrit word “Kala,” meaning time.

Goddess Kali symbolizes Time, Change, Power, Creation, Preservation, and Destruction. The word “Kali” also means “the black one.”

The story of Goddess Kali

Once upon a time, there were two demons, Shumbh and Nishumbh, creating a lot of troubles for the Devas and humans. They were ruthless and caused danger to dharma. So the asuras, after capturing heaven and earth, proceeded to the Himalayas to capture Goddess Parvati.

A fierce battle ensued between the demons and devas, and the side of devas was defeated. Goddess Parvati took the form of Kali and went to the battlefield to teach the asuras a lesson. The demons were killed, but Kali’s rage did not come down, and she lost control over her and started killing the devas and humans. To save innocent people from her onslaught, Lord Shiva placed himself in front of the Goddess. As soon as Kali stepped on Lord Shiva’s chest, her tongue came out as she realized her mistake and transformed to her calm, sublime form again.

To commemorate this event, Goddess Kali is depicted keeping her foot on God Shiva.

The appearance of Kali

Kali is depicted in two forms: Kali, the four-armed, and the ten-armed Mahakali forms. The Puranas describe her as featuring a dark complexion, but in popular Indian Art, she features blue color. Kali’s eyes are red and are in absolute rage, and her hair is messy.

Two small fangs protrude out of her mouth, and her tongue is lolling. Kali wears a skirt made of human arms and a garland of human heads, and she is also shown wearing tiger skin. She is also accompanied by serpents and a jackal while standing on the calm and prostrate Shiva.

In her Mahakali form, Goddess Kali is seen with ten faces, ten feet, twenty arms, and three eyes for each head. She is decked up with ornaments and carries several weapons in her hand.

How to worship Kali

Worshipping Kali during Navaratri is considered very auspicious. In West Bengal, Tripura and Assam, the Navaratri festival is known as Durga Pooja and is celebrated grandly. During Diwali, she is also worshiped; the day is observed as Kali Puja, Shyama Puja, or Tantric Kali. It falls on Diwali days of the Kartik month (October/November) as per the Hindu Panchaang.

Worshipping Kali helps you attain liberation and protects you from evil forces. Therefore, you can offer worship to Goddess Kali but ensure that you have good intentions.

The following auspicious days to perform Kali Puja:

• Amavasya
• Krishna Paksha Navami – the ninth day during the waning phase of the moon
• Krishna Paksha Ashtami – the eighth day during the waning phase of the moon
• Uttara Phalguna Nakshatra falls during the waning phase of the moon.

The following are essential points to be noted while worshipping Kali.

• The perfect time to perform the Kali puja is midnight (11:50 PM to 12:50 AM). The puja should be conducted facing the north direction.
• The person participating in Kali puja should wear a red, orange, or ochre color dress.
• The murti (picture, photo, or painting) of Goddess Kali should be placed on a red color cloth.
• The lamp should be lit using mustard oil.
• Red shoe flowers should be offered to the portrait as garland.
• Chandan Dhoop should be lit.
• Mixes white and black til (sesame) and black peppercorns are ideal as an offering.
• Then, offer Red Chandan and an unbroken coconut and Mishri (kalkanda or rock sugar).
• Prepare Bhog using Til (sesame) and offer to the Goddess. This Bhog should be later shared with a virgin woman.
• Chant the Kali bheej mantra 108 times.
• Smear a white pumpkin with sindhur, cut it into two, and place it before the Goddess.
• Once the puja is over, throw away all the items offered to the Goddess in a forest where humans do not frequent.

Benefits of worshipping Kali

Worshipping Kali shall bestow several benefits to the devotees.

• Kali’s worship helps to attain Liberation or Moksha, the birthless state. She controls time and motion and helps the devotees in their spiritual pursuits.
• She offers protection to you from enemies and adversaries. Out of vengeance, they might try to harm you directly or indirectly, and the power of Kali with save you from evil forces.
• Those who worship Kali are blessed with good health.
• When injustice has been meted out to you, surrender to Goddess Kali for a solution. Her grace will set things right for you.
• Worship of Kali shall protect you from the maleficent effects of Navagraha (the nine planets of the zodiac). In particular, it is ideal to worship Kali during Rahu Kala to be free from Rahu Dosha.

You Are Light: Your Body Is an Illusion

Life is unlimited, but only we have to know to live full intelligence. Then nothing will be hidden from our mind. Why not use the full potential. Why not empower our mind. 

The body is the source of all the problems. As long as you have a meat body, no matter who you are, whether you are a king or billionaire, or a beggar, you are subjected to aches and pains and diseases, old age and death. And human life should be more than just remain as a victim to this physical body. 

And after all this physical body is not the real body. It is only real as long as you make it real. And collectively we have made it real through a gross level of consciousness. 

The Light Body Is the Birthright of Every Human Being

Just look at the example of matter itself — for example, matter, a gross form of matter like a glass. Fundamentally, although it looks like a glass to the naked eye, but if you look through an electron microscope, it’s just a bunch of atoms. But do we see the atoms or a glass? We see only the glass! 

The same thing applies to our physical body too. So we are really getting attached to the superficial reality, and then make it real, and then go through suffering. But then go to the core of our existence which is Light. It’s a matter of evolution. 

So don’t get stuck with this physical body. Just realize that the core of the physical body is just Light, and then experience this Light.

And it’s all about intelligence, our intelligence that comes from science and technology is called: “Marul” intelligence. It is very limited, and based on logic and reasoning, and that is not going to guarantee us a permanent solution for human problems. 

The human problems will come to an end only when we have transcended our material nature and then not [be] conditioned by matter, but we will have no substance except Light. It’s light merging with Light. 

Full Moon in the Month of Thai in the Pushya Birth Star

Pushya Star is the most important Star. The Star is ruled by Saturn, the most powerful planet who controls one’s life and also one’s fortune. The Pushya constellation falls in the Zodiac of Cancer. Cancer is ruled by Moon which represents the mind principle.

Pushya thus came to be associated with Enlightenment. These are some of the astronomical data. But the most important spiritual data is that it is on this day that Lord Siva came to this earth plane to enlighten the planet.

Every Star has its own characteristics. There are 27 Stars recognized by the Indian [Vedic] Astrological System. Out of the 27 Stars, the Pushya Star is one of those 27 Stars.The Pushya Star has the ability to transform matter into Light. 

It is during this time that there is a possibility for you to spiritually evolve. Look at what happened historically during this Full Moon corresponding to Pushya Star in the Tamil month of Thai (roughly January or February) when the Sun enters Capricorn.

Muruga and His Vel Are Known for Dissolving the Most Deep-Rooted Karma

This is the day when Lord Muruga received his Vel, the lance or weapon that his mother Parvati gave him in order to fight evil. Evil is personified in both anthropomorphic terms as demons, and also within us as ignorance—it is our karma. As soon as this lance gets into your brain, your body-mind, your darkness, your evil, your karma … will be gone. That is the real meaning and purpose of the Vel.

‘Dance of Shiva’

Next, it’s the day that Shiva himself came to the earth plane and danced the ‘Dance of Shiva.’ It is a complicated topic, literal and well as mystical. On this day I want you to do a prayer to the Dancing Shiva for enlightenment. Chant Om Namah Sivaya.

The Day Swami Ramalingam Turned His Body into Light

Thirdly, this is the day that Ramalingam disappeared. Disappeared is a very safe word to use. He said, “I will disappear—even if you look in my room I won’t be there but will enter your body and the bodies of everyone. Just recall his compassion and chant, “Arut Perum Jyoti, Arut Perum Jyoti, Tani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jyoti.

To be even more accurate, think of the ‘l’ in Arul as a soft t. It’s the lazy t sound when your tongue’s tip doesn’t rise up to touch your front teeth. What this verse means is “Arul” which is divine intelligence, which is omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence can be attained by simply understanding this one little word “Arul,” A –R – U – L, and that’s the state of consciousness. If that consciousness comes to you, then you realize that and you become that light.
