You grieve for those whom you should not grieve for.

Photo: "You grieve for those whom you should not grieve for. You grieve in vain. While speaking learned words, you are mourning for what is not worthy of grief. Those who are wise lament neither for the living nor the dead." Krishna
Reflect on these words and These will keep worry, fear, and anxiety away from you. The world is somebody's creation. We are all somebody's creation. He who created us - not our earthly father, knows how to protect us. The wheat of which was prepared the bread you ate this morning, grew some time ago, at His bidding. He knows our needs long before they arise. We need not be anxious at all, knowing that God is omnipresent - is everywhere, omniscient - knows everything, and omnipotent - can do anything. We need not be anxious, therefore, that He is not here to protect us, that He does not know our problems, or that He may not be able to help us.
"Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be." He is the maintainer of innumerable living beings, in terms of their different situations according to individual work. He is alive in the heart of every living being. One who can see, within and without, the same Supreme Lord, can actually attain to perfect and eternal peace.! Don't cloud your mind with fear and worries, give them to him, offer your sufferings to him, he will take care for he cares for you! Peace! Hari Om Tat Sat Namah Shivaya !!! Meena Sikka

Photo: 20 Amazing Scientific Reasons Behind Hindu Traditions-2

6. Why We Start With Spice & End With Sweet:

Our ancestors have stressed on the fact that our meals should be started off with something spicy and sweet dishes should be taken towards the end. The significance of this eating practice is that while spicy things activate the digestive juices and acids and ensure that the digestion process goes on smoothly and efficiently, sweets or carbohydrates pulls down the digestive process. Hence, sweets were always recommended to be taken as a last item.

7. Why Do We Applying Mehendi/Henna On The Hand And Feet

Besides lending color to the hands, mehndi is a very powerful medicinal herb. Weddings are stressful, and often, the stress causes headaches and fevers. As the wedding day approaches, the excitement mixed with nervous anticipation can take its toll on the bride and groom. Application of mehndi can prevent too much stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. This is the reason why mehndi is applied on the hands and feet, which house nerve endings in the body.

8. Sitting On The Floor & Eating

This tradition is not just about sitting on floor and eating, it is regarding sitting in the “Sukhasan” position and then eating. Sukhasan is the position we normally use for Yoga asanas. When you sit on the floor, you usually sit cross legged – In sukhasana or a half padmasana (half lotus), which are poses that instantly bring a sense of calm and help in digestion, it is believed to automatically trigger the signals to your brain to prepare the stomach for digestion.

9. Why You Should Not To Sleep With Your Head Towards North

Myth is that it invites ghost or death but science says that it is because human body has its own magnetic field (Also known as hearts magnetic field, because the flow of blood) and Earth is a giant magnet. When we sleep with head towards north, our body’s magnetic field become completely asymmetrical to the Earth’s Magnetic field. That cause problems related to blood pressure and our heart needs to work harder in order to overcome this asymmetry of Magnetic fields. Apart from this another reason is that Our body have significant amount of iron in our blood. When we sleep in this position, iron from the whole body starts to congregate in brain. This can cause headache, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cognitive Decline, Parkinson disease and brain degeneration.

10. Why We Pierce Ear

Piercing the ears has a great importance in Indian ethos. Indian physicians and philosophers believe that piercing the ears helps in the development of intellect, power of thinking and decision making faculties. Talkativeness fritters away life energy. Ear piercing helps in speech-restraint. It helps to reduce impertinent behavior and the ear-channels become free from disorders. This idea appeals to the Western world as well, and so they are getting their ears pierced to wear fancy earrings as a mark of fashion.

If Truth Be Told — A Monk’s Memoir

Photo: If Truth Be Told — A Monk’s Memoir

We are a rather strange species, if you ask me. Almost always, we want something different or more than what we already have. Strange because our capacity to be selfless is as immense as our potential to be selfish. I can vouch for it because I saw myself as a kind person, and didn’t think I had it in me to cause pain to my loved ones. But when propelled by my desire, I inflicted it upon them effortlessly.

One morning, I got up, got ready, went to work and did not go back home in the evening. Instead, I boarded a train to take me away from all my certainties, from the people I loved and from the wealth I owned. Giving my family no warning, no indication, I simply walked away, although I well knew it would be a point of no return.

It’s not that I didn’t think about their feelings. I did, but chose to ignore how they might have felt because I couldn’t postpone my inner calling any further. I no longer wanted to get up every morning, work the entire day, come home in the evening, eat my dinner and go to sleep just because everyone else was doing it, just because it was considered ‘normal’. Who dictated what was normal anyway? If I had to live my life by the rules and conditions set by others then what was the goal of my life, what was my individual purpose – if there was any?

Before me lay the material wealth I had earned painstakingly over the last decade. But cars, properties and a bank balance, however decent, were lifeless things, they always had been. I wasn’t born with these possessions and they certainly wouldn’t go with me after I died. So, what was the struggle of life about? And whatever it was about, was it worth it?

Countless times I had consoled myself that one day I would find the answers, but this consolation was wearing thin now, while my questions were beating like muffled drums in my head. With each strike, the sound was getting louder, getting closer. And, it drowned every other voice around me: the melodious songs of the birds, the pouring of rain, the compassionate words of my mother, the caring ones of my father; nothing was audible anymore, let alone joyous.

Just as the advancing dawn erases the existence of the night, my departure from the material world wiped away my life as I had known it. Leaving behind everything I had worked towards, razing all that I had ever built and abandoning everyone I had ever known, I felt indifferent towards my own past. An uninterested stranger.

From an internet cafe, I sent emails to my family and close friends, saying I was going away and didn’t know if and when I would return. No emotions, no sentiments tugged at my heart when I deleted the email account, destroyed my SIM card, gave away the phone and broke up with my material life of three decades. Casting away the labels that once defined me — son, brother, friend, CEO, MBA, colleague — I walked out of the shop and into a new skin.

This new existence was utter nakedness, no, not in physical terms, but in being nothing, having nothing, not even an identity or a name — the life of a monk. It was only in this state of emptiness, as it were, that I could be filled by what I sought most desperately: a true inner life.

Niranjana

Photo: Niranjana

Sometime or the other you all have had this experience that you are truly Niranjana (meaning: untouched and unblemished). Many times it happens that you are driving down the road in your car and you see two people by the side of the road fighting between themselves, but you simply see them and pass them by. Their quarrel does not affect you in any way, you remain untouched.

In the same way, there is a celebration going on somewhere and you are passing by that place, and you simply observe it and pass it by.

What does the word Niranjana mean? It means that nothing touches or affects us. For example, when small children quarrel with you or get angry with you, it does not hurt or affect you in any way. In the same way, when a mother scolds her children, do the children really take it to heart? No, they do not. Today they listen to her scolding, but the next day they are again up to the same mischief as the previous day.

Now, when your mother scolds you, you do not take it to heart. But if your mother-in-law or father-in-law scolds you, you get so deeply hurt and offended. Do you not see a difference in your attitude between your parents and your in-laws?

So in some measure great or small, we all do know that we are Niranjana. What does it mean to be truly Niranjana? It means that regardless of the EVENTS or circumstances, we remain steady and established in the Self, that we remain happy and blissful.

==============================

You should always honour and respect women, and be considerate towards children and the elderly. Always respect your elders and senior citizens and give them consideration.
=================

Make the universal personal and you become richer, wiser and stronger. Make the personal universal and you will find freedom, compassion and love.

Yudhishthira performs Ashwamedha Yagna-1

Photo: Yudhishthira performs Ashwamedha Yagna-1

After the Kurukshetra war got over and years passed by, Yudhishthira started ruling over Hastinapur and decided to perform Ashwamedha Yagya to showcase his might. All preparations were made for the Yagna and the horse was released to wander as it wishes. Arjuna as the main protector follows it and his soldiers accompany him…but what happens next is not something that everyone is aware of!! The mighty Arjuna was actually killed by his own son Babrubhan. Shocked? Read on to find out the whole story…

Mahabharata’s Ashva medha Parva

The horse proceeded towards north and entered Trigartha Kingdom. The Kings of Trigartha tried to catch the horse. Arjuna said, “O Princes! This is Yagya Ashva left by Dharmaraja. I am its protector. Any harm caused to this horse is equivalent to harming Dharmaraja. Why should we bear enmity amongst ourselves? My brother Dharmaraja told me thus: “Many kings died in war. Their heirs are ruling their respective kingdoms. Don’t try to kill them. Extend your friendly hand to them.”

The war at Trigartha

But the rulers of Trigartha refused to obey the preaching of Arjuna. Surya Varma, king of Trigartha, showered arrows on Arjuna. Arjuna started cutting all those arrows in middle. Arjuna never tried to hurt him. Meanwhile, Ketu Varma, brother of Soorya Varma, arrived there. He also poured arrows on Arjuna. Arjuna chased Ketu Varma from battle field. Meanwhile Dhruta Varma entered the battle field. He also attacked Arjuna with his arrows. Arjuna appreciated Dhruta Varma for his archery skills but did not assault Dhruta Varma.

Arjuna was only cutting the arrows shot by Dhruta Varma. But Dhruta Varma shot numerous arrows piercing into the body of Arjuna. Gandiva slipped from the hand of Arjuna and he fell down. Arjuna picked up his Gandiva and shot numerous arrows and destroyed the entire army of Trigartha. Remaining soldiers fled away. Arjuna never chased them or killed them. After conquering Trigartha, the horse entered Pragjyotishapura.

The battle at Pragjyotishpura

Vajradatta, son of Bhagadatta, was ruling that kingdom. Vajradatta captured the horse and proclaimed war against Arjuna. But Vajradatta was unable to stand before Arjuna and fled away. After some time, Vajradatta, mounting his huge elephant, re-entered the battle field. While Vajradatta was shooting arrows against Arjuna, Arjuna was simply cutting them in middle. Arjuna never caused harm to him. Vajradatta fought with Arjuna for three days. On the fourth day, Vajradatta challenged Arjuna! Arjuna, with one single arrow, killed the elephant. Vajradatta fell down.

Arjuna told Vajradatta “O Vajradatta! This is Yagya Ashva left by Dharmaraja. I am protecting it. Dharmaraja asked me not to kill anybody even if they obstruct the horse. Hence I never caused harm to you. I have no anger against you. I am extending the invitation of Dharmaraja to you, your friends and relatives, to attend the Ashva medha Yagya on the ensuing Chaitra Sudha Pournami.” said Arjuna politely. Having left with no other alternative,Vajradatta accepted the invitation and left the horse.
