Wisdom is a combination of knowledge and experience :
Wisdom is a combination of knowledge and experience. Therefore, instead of craving for more knowledge, we should put a bit of what we know into practice. As we put it into practice, our own experience verifies what we know. As our experience verifies it, the knowledge becomes real to us. The combination of knowledge and personal experience translates into wisdom.
For example, we all know that fulfillment of worldly desires does not bring lasting happiness. But if a young man is told so, he would say, it might be true, but I still want my desires to be fulfilled. After some of his desires have been fulfilled, he finds that he does not get the expected happiness. Now the knowledge that ‘fulfillment of worldly desires does not bring lasting happiness’ becomes real to him. After this experience has been repeated several times, the knowledge starts getting translated into wisdom. The effect of the wisdom is that the frequency and intensity of his desires goes down.
