Parakotti pattu is a devotional percussion at Sabarimala is done for the favor to keep away Sanidosham, Sarppadosham and Kaaldosham. It is believed that the Queen of Pandalam and the minister plotted against Lord Ayyappa to oust him from the Palace and this special form of song done with the aid of a drum is conducted against this act. There is also some belief that it done in
order to maintain the divinity and purity of Sabarimala as orders given by the Pandalam King.
At the initial days this is done under the holy step and later, shifted to
Malikappuram temple premises due to the space limit. People from velan cast are doing Parakotti pattu here. They sing kesadipadam by asking the name and star of every devotee. Nine velan families are doing the act here.
