Yesterday was the 64th anniversary of existing Somnath Mandir’s Pran Pratishtha(sort of inauguration). On this day in Vikram Samvat 2007, Vaishakh Shukla Panchami, then President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad had performed Pran Pratishtha of Shri Somnath Mandir at 9.46 am. With this the pledge taken by Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was completed. It should be mentioned that on his visit to Somnath, Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel saw parts of Somnath Mandir demolished by Islamic rulers centuries back. Sardar Patel had there and then had taken decision to rebuild the temple. He took water of Arabian sea in his hand and took pledge of construction of a grand Somnath temple here.
Construction of Somnath Mandir was completed by Prabhashankar Sompura in year 1965. Golden top was installed by Maharaja of Navanagar Jamnagar Shri Digvijaysinhji while Pran Pratishtha was performed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
5 lakh people had gathered during Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav during which Shri Somnath Jyotirlinga was offered waters of 108 pilgrim places/rivers, 108 Brahmins had chanted Mantras and salute of 101 cannon was given. Sweets were taken to villages in trucks and carts and distributed among people. Dr. Rajendra Prasad had in his message said that strenth of constructive elements is greater than destructive elements.
To mark the anniversary of Pran Pratishtha, Shri Somnath Trust today organized Mahapujan, Maha Abhishek, dip mala and Shringar darshan aarti.
