Happy Ganesh Chaturthi Dear All ~ Jai Shri Ganesh Jai Shri Mahesh!
Lord Ganesha. Gana in Sanskrit means 'multitude', 'Isa means 'Lord'. Lord Ganesha therefore literally means the 'lord of all beings'. Ganesha is the first son of Lord Shiva. SHiva represents the supreme reality. The son of Shiva symbolises one who has realised the Reality. One who has discovered the godhood in him. Such a man is said to be the Lord of all beings. Lord Shiva appointed Lord Ganesha as the leader of his Gana and called him Ganapati, literally meaning, leader of people. Ganapati represents all the qualities that a leader should have.  The Amarakosha, an early Sanskrit lexicon, lists eight synonyms of Ganesha : Vinayaka, Vighnarāja (equivalent to Vighnesha), Dvaimātura (one who has two mothers), Gaṇādhipa (equivalent to Ganapati and Ganesha), Ekadanta (one who has one tusk), Heramba, Lambodara (one who has a pot belly, or, literally, one who has a hanging belly), and Gajanana ; having the face of an elephant.
Although the 18 major Puranas have Kartikeya as the one born according to prophecy, Ganesha and Mudgala Purana show Ganesha fulfilling the prophecy as well. In the Ganesha Purana we read that Ganesha was born as the destroyer of demons. And this puts him also as the fulfilment of prophecy given by Brahma Ji, that the Son of Shiva could kill the demon. The Ganesha Purana is is an Upapurana that includes many stories and ritualistic elements relating to Ganesha. The Ganesha Purana and the Mudgala Purana are core scriptures for devotees of Ganesha, known as Ganapatyas. These are the only two Purana that are exclusively dedicated to Ganesha.
The Kridakhanda of the Ganesha Purana narrates the stories of four incarnations of Ganesha, each of which appeared in the four different yugas. These four are not the same as the eight incarnations of Ganesha that are described in the Mudgala Purana.
1- Mahotkata Vinayaka, who has ten arms and a red complexion. This incarnation killed the demon brothers Narantaka and Devantaka, as well as the demon Dhumraksha. 2- Mayuresvara who has six arms and a white complexion. His mount is a peacock. He was born to Shiva and Parvati in the Treta yuga. He incarnates for the purpose of killing the demon Sindhu. At the end of this incarnation he gives his peacock mount to his younger brother Skanda, with whom the peacock mount is generally associated. 3- Gajanana, who has four arms and was born with a red complexion. He has a mouse as his mount. He is born to Shiva and Parvati in the Dvapara yuga. He incarnates for the purpose of killing the demon Sindura, who was so-named due to his reddish-pink complexion. #TheShivaTribe 4- Dhumraketu is grey in colour, like ash or smoke. He has either two or four arms. He has a blue horse as his mount. He will come to end the decline of the Kali yuga. During this incarnation he kills numerous demons. Grimes notes that there is a parallel between this incarnation of Ganesha and final incarnation of Vishnu, where he will ride upon the white horse Kalki!! Ganpati Bappa Morya!!
Love, Peace & Gratitude ~ Sarva Jana Sukhino Bhavantu!!
