Lord Shiva, The God of the Universe! Devon ke Dev, Mahadev! Who doesn't worship him? the various gods worship him alone, hence he is the God of Gods, Shiva, the Great Mahadev!! Lord Rama worshipped Shiva. He established Shiva Linga when he was marching towards Lanka which is known as Rameshwara Mahadeva means Ishwar of Rama. When Lord Rama wanted to do Prashchatap, penance because he considered killing Ravana as sin of killing a brahman, he asked Hanuman Ji to establish a Shiva Linga and asked again Shiva for mercy to get rid of his sin. In Krishna avatar when Krishna wanted to bring tree kalpa Vriksha from Indra, he worshiped Shiva for blessings and that is known as "Gopeshwara Mahadeva" in vrindavana, means Ishwara of Gopal. Also when Krishna wanted to have a son, he asked sages and from their advice he prayed to Lord Shiva to get a son. Krishna said "Shive Sarvadhi Sadhike" means nothing happens without Shiva's will, so please bless me with son!! When the battle of Mahabharata was about to be fought he asked Pandavas to have blessings of lord Shiva first and arranged a Pooja of Shiva Linga.! In Bhagawat Puran there is a story about Maa Lakshmi getting angry with Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu told her that half of his heart is dedicated only to Lord Shiva. And in the rest of half, all the creatures of world and all deities including his wife Lakshmi resides! Parshurama is considered as great devotee of Shiva, Shiva gave him Parshu, which Parshurama is famous for. Not to forget, Ravana worshipped Shiva and got many boons from him. Shiva is the only supreme Parmatma. Ajanma, Akarta and Abhokta!!
