The problem is people limit Shaivism to their definition of morality and philosophy. Shaivism, and God Shiva is beyond our set morality and standards. He is transcendent of our limited understanding.
There is more to the limitation of rules and set standards. Shiva is, in fact, the VERY GOD WHO GOES BEYOND EXPECTATIONS. People have always pictured God to be clothed in a very royal attire, well dressed, full of light and surrounded by angels and demigods.
Shiva, on the other hand, covers himself in cremation ashes, parades with demons and ghosts, and has INTENTIONALLY TAKEN WHATEVER IS TABOO, AND PRESENTS IT IN FRONT OF US, SAYING "THIS IS REALITY". We have been made to think that there are things that should not be talked about because it is bad, and people pretend it does not exist. But it does, and rather than fear what exists, WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND ITS PURPOSE IN ITS EXISTENCE.
Many other religions have hidden sexuality, death, and other things as macabre or taboo, shunning the idea of presentation as it is seen as something unholy; yet Shiva opens our mind and knowledge through tantric concepts, understanding and appreciating the purpose of ghosts and demons, and understanding the purpose of death.
After all, how can one live if one lives in fear? How can we truly be free if we're limited by limitations imposed to us by society and religion? There is only one important value in life, and that is to love the universe as the universe is Shiva. Shiva has presented that he has transcended limitations and expectations because Shiva IS TRUTH, SHIVA IS BEAUTY, AND SHIVA IS LOVE.
Om Namah Shiva
