In Padama Purana its mentioned that Just as Lord Mahadev is supreme among all the deities, in the same manner Kashi, Benaras holds a significant status among all the places of pilgrimage.

'In Padama Purana its mentioned that Just as Lord Mahadev is supreme among all the deities, in the same manner Kashi, Benaras holds a significant status among all the places of pilgrimage. Hence an individual should make it a point to visit Kashi once in his life time. "Kashya Maranam Muktihih" ~ Dying in Kashi offers liberation, escape from the endless cycle of birth and death. Mahadev moves around in Kashi, Breaks through the clouds and mixes with the world of humans, breathing Taraka Mantra through their ears, who have passed away, sending them on their way to heaven!
Shri Vishwanath or Vishweshwara, means Ruler of the universe. Kashi Vishvanath Temple is located in Varanasi. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The main deity is known by the name Vishvanatha or Vishveshvara meaning Ruler of The Universe. The Temple has been referred to in Hindu Scriptures for a very long time and as a central part of worship in the Shaiva philosophy. It has been destroyed and re-constructed a number of times in the history. The last structure was demolished by Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor who constructed the Gyanvapi Mosque on its site. The current structure was built on an adjacent site by the Maratha monarch, Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore in 1780. Since 1983, the temple has been managed by the government of Uttar Pradesh. During the religious occasion of Shivratri, Kashi Naresh (King of Kashi) is the chief officiating priest and no other person or priest is allowed to enter the temple sanctorum. It is only after he performs his religious functions that others are allowed to enter. Thousands of sins of a person are destroyed by mere sight of Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga.
Performance of various rituals at Kashi liberates a man from all his sins-all his flaws are eliminated automatically just by residing in Kashi. A devotee who regularly practices meditation in Kashi attains Yogasiddhi within six months. Worshipping Lord Kapardishwar after taking a holy dip in Pishach-mochan kunda liberates a man from gravest of sin like Brahmahatya!!
Har Har Mahadev Shambhu Kashi Vishwanath Gange! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
