Ganesha or Ganapati is the commander of Shivas troops and because he is the one who creates obstacles for demons and removes obstacles for the demigods/devotees, he is known as Vighnesvara ("lord of obstacles") and Vinayaka ( one who removes obstacles). The "obstacle" theme also tells us why Ganesha uses a rat as his vehicle. As rodents generally succeed in gnawing their way through any obstruction, the rat symbolizes Ganeshas ability to destroy every obstacle.
Vighnesa, who removes fear from the minds, whose purpose is to help his worshippers surmount every difficulty. With the noose in his hand, Ganesha can hold you close or capture and confine both blessings and obstacles. With the goad, Ganesha can strike and repel obstacles from you. Ganesha removes obstacles but he can also put them in your way to prevent you from going down the wrong path.
Ganesha's four arms stand for his immense power in helping Humanity. Lord Ganesha is the Single-Tusk One, patron of literature, who tore off one of his tusks to scribe the great epic Mahabharata. Through this action Ganapati teaches us that knowledge and dharma are of utmost importance worth sacrificing even pride and beauty to attain. The tiny little rat at his feet, Mooshika, representing the worldly desires that need to be overcome. The contradiction between the heaviness of the elephant and the lightness of the rat is an illustration of Ganeshas role as one who brings about unity and harmony.
Ganesha sits contentedly upon the muladhara (first) chakra and reigns over it. Ganesha is the deity of the instinctive mind and of the intellectual mind. He clears the mind so that awareness may flow into it. Ganesha is also associated with general abundance in life. To worship Ganesha, hold his form steady in your mind with eyes closed. Talk to him. He will listen. Put all your problems at his feet. Ganesha answers you not in words but by his influencing events and decisions slowly and in unseen ways. Situations will change for you and doors will open through your prayers to him. Ganesha enjoys adulation through constant repetition of his name. So sing his glories, Chant his name, all your obstacles will be removed!!! 🐘🕉👁🌀📿🍃🐚🐍🌷🐀🎨🙏🏻
