Month of shravan starts on 10 July and will continue till 7 August. According to Shiva Maha Purana, the month of Shravan is dearly loved by Lord Shiva and this is the reason why the whole month is dedicated towards his worshiping. Lord Shiva during this month is the most kind and forgiving, anyone who dearly worships him, is blessed by him.
Shravan is considered the holiest month of the year. Each monday of this month, known as Shravana Somvar, is a special day in Shiva temples where the dharanatra hangs over the shivalinga to bathe it with holy water, day and night. Devotees offer Bel leaves and flowers and fast till sunset. The 24 hour lamp burns steadily in the temples.
As per sacred Hindu scriptures , worshipping Lord Shiva during the holy month of Shravan is equivalent to an entire year’s veneration.
Shiv-bhakts perform strict penance to impress Lord Shiva and a special sect of devotees observes the popular ‘Kanwar Yatra’ in his respect. Hindus worldwide believe that anything and everything done with pure heart and devotion during Shravan Maas, reaches the ears and heart of Lord Shiva.
