Devi Bhagavata Purana also known as the Shrimad Devi Bhagvatam and the Devi Bhagavatam, is a Sanskrit text that belongs to the Purana-genre of Hindu literature.

Devi Bhagavata Purana also known as the Shrimad Devi Bhagvatam and the Devi Bhagavatam, is a Sanskrit text that belongs to the Purana-genre of Hindu literature. The text is considered a Mahapurana (major Purana) in parts of India, while others include it as one of the Upapurana (minor Purana), but all traditions consider it as an important Purana.

The text consists of twelve Skandha (sections) with 318 chapters. It is one of the most important works in Shaktism, a tradition that reveres Devi or Shakti as the primordial creator of the universe and the Brahman (ultimate truth and reality). It celebrates the divine feminine as the origin of all existence, the creator, the preserver and the destroyer of everything, as well as the one who empowers spiritual liberation. While all major Puranas of Hinduism mention and revere the Goddess, this text centers around her as the primary divinity.

Devi Bhagavata Purana is not the earliest Indian text that celebrates the divine feminine, the 6th-century Devi Mahatmya embedded in Markandeya Purana asserts the goddess to be supreme, Both Devi Mahatmya and Devi Bhagavata Purana, influential texts of the Shakta tradition, assert the supremacy of the female and making goddess a figure of devotional appeal.

This text along with all Puranas, all Vedas and the Mahabharata, is attributed to sage Veda Vyasa. The title of the text, Devi Bhagavata, is composed of two words, which together mean "devotee of the blessed Devi". The terms Devi and Deva are Sanskrit terms found in Vedic literature of 2nd millennium BCE, wherein Devi is feminine and Deva is masculine. Several authors translate it as "heavenly, divine, terrestrial things of high excellence, exalted, shining ones".

The goddess Devi is portrayed as a warrior, and is known to defeat many demons; however she is also the cosmic mother, especially to her devotees. She is beyond being a consort to anyone, though she bears a special relationship to every deity. For her devotees, Devi is independent and embodies the powers of all the gods combined. She is known by many names, most often known as Durga (She who is Formidable), or Chandi (She who is Fierce). Prakriti (matter or nature), Maya (trick or illusion), Shakti (power or ability) and Mahamaya (the great matrix of phantasmal reality). She is also Parvati or Kali. ✨👑💀👁💀👑✨
