The biggest surprise is that in the ancient times, how would this magnificent temple have been established by bringing those huge stones to such an inaccessible site in the absence of mechanical means? This grand temple is a living proof of the devotion of the Pandavas to Shiva, their strong will and their muscle power.

Story in Shiva Maha Purana --

There were two twin brother incarnations of Lord Vishnu called Nara and Narayana on earth working for the preservation of dharma and righteousness. Both Nara and Narayan had done great penance at Badarikashram in the holy Himalayas for the welfare of living entities. They prayed to Lord Shiva to make a Shiva lingam of the Parthiv (soil) and devoutly dwell therein. both (Nara and Narayan) worshiped Shiva sincerely. Constantly worshiping Shiva daily and being immersed in his meditation was the restrained routine of these two brothers. Satisfied with their worship, God Shankar appeared before them and asked them for a wish.

Pleased to hear Lord Shankar, Nara and Narayan said - 'Deveshwar! If you are happy and want to give us boon, then stay here forever to accept worship in your Shivling form.

Lord Shankar, who takes care of the world, accepted the request and established himself as Jyotirlinga at Kedar tirtha in the Himalayas. Lord Shiva, known as Kedareshwar Mahadev, is always present there, in order to destroy all fear and sorrow and to give his darshan to his devotees.
