Lord Hanuman is one of the most revered Gods in Hinduism. He is recognised as an epitome of devotion, faith, valour and selfless love. This selfless love for Lord Rama teaches us the meaning of true friendship.
When he was young Hanuman flew straight to the Sun (which he misinterpreted to be a ripe fruit) and tried to swallow it. That is when Indra attacked him with his Vajra (thunderbolt) and he fell straight to earth, when his jaw was disfigured.
Agni blessed him, Saying, “Fire will never burn you.” Hence when Hanuman ji set Lanka on fire, he was unharmed of this fire of his own making and his tail wasn’t burned.
Lord Hanuman’s mother Anjana was a celestial nymph called Punjikasthala who was cursed to be born as a monkey on earth when she offended a sage.
According to legend, Hanuman ji is one of the four people to have heard the Bhagwad Gita from Krishna and seen the Vishwarupa form, the other three being Arjuna, Sanjaya and Barbarika son of Ghatotkacha.
Hanuman ji also created his version of Ramayana – which was supposedly a superior version compared to that of Valmiki’s.
Women are not allowed to touch Hanuman’s feet. Hanuman ji was a bal brahmachari (meaning unmarried/ celibate). So, men are allowed to worship and touch the idol. Women can worship but should not touch the idol.
It is believed that if you offer Sindoor to Hanuman ji or smear it on his body (only men are allowed to do this), he grants you whatever you have wished for.
Hanuman ji is one of the 7 Chiranjeevis. The immortals who will live till the beginning of the next Satya Yuga.
Hanuman ji rejected a pearl necklace gifted to him by Maa Sita saying “I don’t accept anything that does not contain Rama.” To prove his point he ripped his chest to show the presence of Lord Rama in his heart.
Jai Shri Ram ~ Shubh Prabhat!
