How long will you do this, Parvati? Why does Shiva not appear? What if He doesn’t come for another season?” The birds and animals voiced their concern one day.
‘Ah well, I intend to further intensify my efforts from tomorrow,” answered Parvati.
“Further intensify? How is that even possible?”
“I think you can have all the berries from now on,” said Parvati, opening Her palm and offering the freshly plucked fruit to the birds. Parvati would stop eating anything at all from the next day, as in ‘intensification’ to attain Shiva, she would actually subsist only on His name. “Aum Namah Shivaye,” She whispered into the dainty birds’ ears.
