LATEST UPDATES ON THE RESTORATION WORKS TO OUR PARAKUNNATH VETTAKKORUMAKAN PAYYAN KSHETHRAM AT AROLI, KANNUR

LATEST UPDATES ON THE RESTORATION WORKS TO OUR PARAKUNNATH VETTAKKORUMAKAN PAYYAN KSHETHRAM AT AROLI, KANNUR

Dearest Payyan Brothers and Sisters and All Well-wishers,

The Kshethram works only began in the 1st week of March 2013. Carving works on the stones are all finished now. Hope that the ‘pathukam and cherip’ of the flooring will be finished in 2 to 3 weeks time. After that, works on the ‘jagathy’, the ’kumudam’ and the ‘steps’ will be done. They all will be done using special stones. These works will take some time. Some workers are staying in the Temple itself so that they could complete the works on schedule. Their accommodation is arranged within the Temple premises.

The Mason took the contract for the Chutambalam floor at INR Rs. 3,80,000/-

The contract for the wall2 thidappally and 16 pillars was given for INR Rs. 2,90,000/-

Stones worth INR Rs. 2,62,400/- has been obtained so far. Some more stones have to be collected for the walls. It is anticipated that additional stones worth Rs. 50,000/- have to be bought.

Since these special stones should not get wet,  a ‘panthal’ is laid to protect them from rain water.

Hope that the jagathy works will be finished by the end of April, and soon after that, wood for the carpentry works will have to be bought. If we could start the carpentry works along with the masonry works, it is possible to finish the carpentry works soon after finishing the wall.

To purchase the wood , we went to the Mangalore Government forest depot offices in Parappa , Sullia and Karkala. It has been decided that we shall participate in the auction conducted by the Government in order to obtain the required 650 cubic metres of wood that we require. The trees in this forest area are around 150 years of age. Our carpenter told that this wood will last longer than that.  At first, 550 cubic metres will be bought for the Temple and the remaining wood will be bought during the progress of the work according to the need. ”Nadan palurpp” costs Rs 2000/cubic metre in the forest depot office. 550 cubic metres of wood will cost more than Rs.11,00,000/- when it reaches here. We wish to participate in the auction in the beginning of April itself.

While the Chutambalam work is in progress, we require two “Kattilas” - one in the front and the other for the north side. Our Mason has told us to order them very soon. The order for the Kattilas has to be given at Palakkad.

The two Kattilas have to be made in “Krishnashilla” and will cost above INR Rs.70,000/-

INR Rs. 3,80,000 will be required as per the contract given to the Mason. Hope that the floor works will be finished in the April month. Sand, cement etc. will cost extra and by the time we level the floor, the cost could be around INR Rs. 4,20,000/-

Including the Kattilas, the total cost will be around INR Rs.4,90,000/-

The Executive Committee has INR Rs. 11,70,882 in hand now and when the above works are over, only INR Rs.6,80,882 will be left.  4 lakh from this will have to be used for buying the wood for carpentry works. Hope that when the masonry work and carpentry work progresses, our Payyan relatives will donate sufficiently to defray the progressive cost of construction.

The Committee is beginning a new “Chitti” in May. The Temple will get INR Rs. 50,000/- profit from this. The Committee is already having two “Chitties”. True copies of all the expenses incurred so far for Chuttambalam work have been tabled and passed.  The Committee for Chuttambalam work is under the control of the Executive Committee at present.

There had been a delay in the Mason's work so far. That is why I could not inform you on the progress of the works and on the cost estimates. But from March, the work is progressing at a satisfactory pace. According to the contract given to the Mason, Chuttambalam floor work will be completed by May and the wall will be completed by December, 2013.The current progress of the works seem to indicate that the above targets can be achieved. If we could get the carpentry works to be ready by December 2013, the Chuttambalam works can be completed before the next” Prathishtadhinam” in January 2014. The carpenter has given his word that he will get everything ready in time if we can give him the required wood. He has agreed to do the carpentry works on a daily wage basis.

Believing in Our God’s Grace, I am very hopeful that our entire Payyan clan’s support in terms of financial  contribution will be forthcoming in the coming months in order to complete all the restoration works to our beloved ancestral Temple.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and for your donations for the restoration works to our Temple. With your undivided support and commitment, our dream of restoring our beloved ancestral Temple will materialise!

The Executive Committee is happy to send the details of the “Varav – Chelav” (income and expenditure) on request to all Payyan members. The Statement includes the details of the past records of the ‘Yearly Working Committee’ upto 2012 and also for the months of January, February and March of 2013. These Statements will be translated into English and will be send to all Payyan clan members sometime in May.
