I wish to share a reply I gave to a dear devotee of Lord Shiva.
I can tell you that God is a concept, a personification of reality, a philosophy, an experience, a template that inspires us to be able to be who we can be. God is the universe.
Others can give their own personal concept.
Don't let others impose to you. God is to be experienced.
Of all the concepts and philosophies I have heard. I loved Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is focused on enlightenment, and self realization that you are one with Shiva. The realized mind reaches self realization, and self realization is God realization.
Lord Shiva does not have any bias, does not interfere, and also accepts that he has to abide with the laws of nature. He is superior to me, his concepts are wonderful.
Hinduism is so diverse that practically everyone claims their own God to be superior.
Who do you love? Will you stop loving Shiva if you are convinced that he is not superior?
Will you stop loving Lord Shiva and the philosophy if you realize God does not exist?
Lord Shiva is the best ideal I have found. He is all love, he is all about equality, justice, and living by example. He is the prime example of detachment while loving. You can choose to not believe in God and still live these values because Lord Shiva never imposes, he inspires. Lord Shiva does not command, he enlightens. If you know what you are supposed to do, you will follow with the fullest conviction.
Yours is the liability to your decision, and only you will face your karma. Lord Shiva never punishes or abandons those who have no faith or belief in him. After all, a God of pure love is like a loving parent. He does not expect anything from us. Love just flows naturally. When you reach that point of enlightenment, then you will understand the mind of Lord Shiva.
