THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala accepted the ceremonial sword at the Padmanabhapuram Palace in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as part of this year’s Navaratri celebrations.
The State Archaeology Director handed the sword to the Minister in the presence of Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, Health Minister V S Sivakumar and Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph.
The sword presentation ceremony is held annually ahead of the main event which marks the beginning of the celebrations - the journey undertaken by three deities from the Padmanabhapuram Palace and various temples in Kanyakumari district to Thiruvananthapuram. Saraswathi Devi is brought to Thiruvananthapuram on a decked-up elephant, while Murugan ceremoniously arrives on a horse and Munnoottinanka Devi on a palanquin. The state government formally receives the procession at Karamana, after which it proceeds to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
After the celebrations, the deities are taken back to Kanyakumari district.
The state government has made elaborate arrangements this year to celebrate the historically important festival, the Health Minister said.
An architectural marvel, the Padmanabhapuram Palace, though in Tamil Nadu, is managed by the Archaeology Department of the Kerala Government. -Sunday Express
