Anant Chaturdashi is a festival observed and celebrated by Jain and Hindus. One may note that Chaturthi is the fourth day of the lunar fortnight, while Chaturdashi is the fourteenth. In the normal course, Anant Chaturdashi falls 12 days after Ganesh Chaturthi. Anant Chaturdashi is performed on the fourteenth day (Chaturdashi) of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapad.

Anant Chaturdashis main significance is that on this day Ganapati Visarjan is performed. On this day, the festival of Ganpati comes to an end. The installed Murti/idols of Lord Ganpati are taken to a lake, river or a sea in great processions to be immersed in the water. On this day, people travel to the waterfront with the idols, large and small, dancing and singing in large processions. Lord Ganesha is departed, only to be welcomed the next year with equal excitement. The statue is to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of his devotees.
.
Lord Ganesha holds a special place of Lord Ganesha in Hinduism. Any puja, havan or auspicious work is incomplete without his praise. In Hinduism, any new work begins with Ganesh Vandana. This is the reason that Ganesh Chaturthi means that Lord Ganesh's birthday is celebrated throughout the country with great fervour and zeal.
.
Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations are not only religious but also cultural. This festival is a also a symbol of national unity. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had started Ganesh worship in public for promoting national culture and unity during his reign. After the failed revolution of 1857, Lokmanya Tilak started the tradition of celebrating this festival as a social and national festival with the objective of uniting the whole country. During the immersion, the atmosphere is filled with the sound of 'Ganapati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras tu Jaldi Aa ..
