Lord Ganesha is worshipped before doing any auspicious deed in religion because he is considered the master of Riddhi and Siddhi and considered the supreme pujya among all the gods. Ganesh ji is considered to be very clever and energetic God. The devotee who worships Lord Ganesha with a true heart, his every wish is fulfilled.
Ganesha Utsav lasts for 10 days and on Anant Chaturdashi (9th September) Lord Ganesha's statue is immersed everywhere. Ganpati Mahaparva, which is celebrated on Ganesh Chaturthi, has been going on for thousands of years. Ganpati has become the most popular god of India. They are considered ultimate scholars and intelligent.
Many things are offered in the worship of Ganeshji which has special importance of Durva. Without this, Ganesh ji's worship is considered incomplete. Lord Ganesha loves Durva very much, but Tulsi is not offered in his worship.
According to mythology, there used to be a monster whose name was Analasur. Who used to disturb everyone from heaven to earth. He used to eat the sages, gods and common people alive. Then all the gods went to Kailash Mountain to Mahadev to get rid of this demon.
After listening to all the gods and goddesses, Shivji said that only Ganesh can end Analasur. After this Lord Ganesh swallowed Analasur which caused his stomach burning which was not able to calm down. Then Kashyap Rishi made 21 knots of Durva and gave it to Ganesh ji to eat. Then went and calmed the stomach burning. That's when the tradition of offering Durva to Ganesh ji started.
Basil leaves are not offered in Ganesh Puja. According to Vishnu Purana, Tulsi once saw Ganesh ji fascinated and expressed his desire to marry him, but Ganeshji rejected his proposal. On this matter, Tulsi ji cursed him of doing two marriages in anger.
Then Ganeshji also cursed Tulsi and said that you will also marry a monster. After which Tulsi realized his mistake and apologized to Lord Ganesh ji. Then they said that you will be going to give salvation in Kalyug but you will not be offered in my worship. Then only basil leaves are not used in Ganesh Puja.
Hail Lord Ganesha
