Pitru Paksha is a 15 day period which is purely dedicated to all the ancestors or forefathers. People perform Pitru Tarpanand Pind Daan during these days. According to the Hindu Scriptures, it is believed that Pitru comes on earth in these 15 days of period.
As per legend, if a person fails to perform shraddha of their ancestors during these days or in case they are not aware about the death tithi, then they can perform all the tarpan rituals on the day of ‘Sarvapitra Moksha Amavasya’. It is also believed that if their shraddha ritual is not observed during these days, they return unhappily.
Here we talk about the astrological part, if there is a Pitru Dosh in the horoscope, people may go through with bad experiences in life and face malefic effects of that in their lives. So it is advised to perform shradh ritual and Pind daan on the day of Amavasya so that the deceased soul can attain salvation and do not wander in the search of peace.
Sarva Pitru Amavasya Rituals—
1. People get up early in the morning and get ready.
2. Prepare satvik food to offer priest.
3. Must include sweet in the food (preferably Kheer).
2. Eldest male member of the family perform all the shradh rituals dedicated to their ancestors.

As we all know Amavasya is the last day of Pitru Paksha so people thank their ancestors on this particular day, who have done a lot for their children and in return their children remember them, offer prayers to them and seek apology from their forefathers and pray that their soul can attain salvation and goes to Vaikunth Loka.
