According to Hindu Panchang, every month has different glory. In the scriptures, the Kartik month coming in Chaturmas is considered to give religion, meaning, work and salvation. Kartik month starts as soon as Sun Narayan arrives on Libra zodiac sign. Basil worship is very important in this month.

According to mythology, a woman named Gunati planted a beautiful vatika of basil on the entrance of the temple in Kartik month. Because of that virtue, she became Satyabhama in her next life and because of fasting in Kartik month, she became the wife of Lord Krishna.
