IN THE IMAGE OF SHIVA
Namaste! So many of us are fortunate to have Shivji in our homes, as an idol or statue, or then a painting or a fine print.
Even if we dont have any of these decorations at home, His presence as the Dhyanastha ( Meditative) Yogi has become almost Universal, and hardly a day goes by, if we are attentive, that we don’t see Him, smiling as an image in the marketplace shops, or somewhere present in the office, or in the canteen, even on a calender, to remind us daily, that He is, actually Omnipresent!
When we see a Shiva image we become respectful for that one minute, and sometimes chant a prayer, at other times a quick thought of homage, a sort of Namaste to God...
But if we learn to hold that moment,If we are more attentive, then a surprising thing happens: We get a feeling that Shiva is also trying to convey something back.Homage is a respect, an admiration, and when admiration grows, we begin to become like the One we admire : From knowing Him as an idol,we start to make Him our Ideal..
And yes, the ancient Shaivite Rishis did tell us, The greatest message of Shiva is,’ find the Shiva who resides within you’ . If you really believe in Shiva, and if you understand that everything comes from Him, all things, even you, then the message becomes clear: To worship Shiva, be like Shiva. The image of Shivji in calm meditation becomes a great reminder: To be like the God you love so much, be yourself kind and loving always! This, my friends, is the great worship of Shiva.
Sam Karoti iti Samkara.
Aum Namah Shivaye !
