Maha Rudrabhishek Description
* Maha Rudrabhishek Description *
1) Rudrabhishek Means
Rudrabhisheka is a ritual of worshipping Lord Shiva in his Rudra form, in which a Shivalinga is bathed in water which is continuously poured over it, with accompaniment of the chanting of vedic mantra called the Rudra Suktha. It is hailed by all Vedic scriptures as one of the greatest Pujas. Abhisheka is the worshiping ritual of the lord Shiva in which substances like water, ganga jal , cow's milk, curds (Yogurt) , clarified butter( cows milk ghee ), honey, finely ground sugar, sugar cane juice, coconut water, sandalwood etc and the mixer are poured on the Shiva Linga.
2) Benefit of Maha Rudrabhishek
As per our ancient Texts and Scripts, Sri Rudram is the oldest vedic hymn of various names of Lord Shiva. Various aspects of Lord Shiva are invoked and worshipped through the chanting of Sri Rudram. When a fire ritual ( Yagna ) is performed after the chanting, it is called as Rudra Yagna ( Homam ). This is one of the most powerful Puja for seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva for getting relief from any kind of problem ( good health, wealth, happiness, evil effects ,enemies, evil planetary effects including kalsarp yoga etc. ) and all the desires fulfilled with Lord Shiva's blessings.
3) Why Maha Rudrabhishek
Ancient Sages have prescribed several ceremonies and austerities where Vedic Mantras are used for worship . One of such Mantras of high potency and power is called SRI RUDRAM of Taitriya Samhita of Sri Krishna Yajurveda . Samhita consists of seven 'cantos' containing 44 Chapters of 'Prasnas' . In the middle of the 4th Canto of this Samhita ' SRI RUDRAM' is the fifth chapter. This chapter is divided into 11 'Anuvakas' or paragraphs. It is a prayer to Lord Shiva praising His various attributes and qualities.
Abhishekam is also performed on a 'Shivalinga' chanting Sri rudra eleven times and Chamaka once. The significance is that ,the eleven forms of Lord Shiva viz: Mahadeva, Shiva, Rudra, Shankara, Neelalohita, Eashana, Vijaya, Bhima, Devadeva, Bhavodhbhava and Adtiiyatmaka Rudra,are invoked in eleven Kalasas (kumbham) when eleven times Sri Rudra Mantra is chanted .
4) Astrological Significance of Rudrabhishek
The people born under the zodiac sign of Karka get numerous benefits from the Rudrabhishek. It also reduces the malefic effects of Moon or Chandra Grah as well as the evil effect of Pudhya, Punarvasu, Ashlesha Nakshatra and make them powerful and fruitful. The person going through the main or sub period of Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are advised to perform the Shiv Puja to reduce the malefic effect of these planets.
