Significance of Aaraghya, offering water to Sun.
Offering water to the SUN god is practiced during sunrise time and during this process, spectrum of sun-rays refract through the water impacting us positively from head to toe. As a result we automatically gain through the ‘water therapy of sun-rays.’ This process helps us miraculously in the intellectual upliftment of the individual and it also reflects enhancement of his acumen in decision making, in eye-sight, digestion, luster as well as splendor. The sun-rays refracting through the water of libation are a vital source of vigour and beauty. The green, violet colors refracted from VIGBYOR of the SUN are considered rich sources of anti-bacterial energy.
Human body is made up of five things, air (vayu), water (jal), earth (prithvi), fire (energy) and space (aakash) and the cure of all the ailments of the body is amongst these five things only and the rays of the rising sun are one of these things. Many diseases can be cured by the use of sun rays e.g. ailments of the heart, eyes, jaundice, leprosy and weak mind. The rays of the Sun coming (filtered from the flowing film of water) at the time of sun rise are not only excellent for eyes but it also energises the entire body and soul.
Hindus have practiced ‘Sandhya Vandanam‘ (saluting the sun during rise, noon and set) along with chanting of Gayatri Mantra for thousands of years and remained physically & spiritually strong.
Garuda Purana states that a type of Asura called mandeha , who originally resided in an island called Aruna was trying to destroy Surya at time of daybreak and sunset. The Aarghaya given at these times serves as a weapon to destroy them.
The another important part is how to pour water. Pick a copper utensil and fill it with water. Add red sandal, kumkum and red flowers to it and during sunrise time, face towards east direction and and let the water fall down slowly. Try to pour it into some plant. The 'mudra' is to join your legs together, raise your hands above your head holding the copper vessel. Then, when the water stream is continuous and uniform, try to look at the sun through that stream. So, it is important to make a wide but thin stream to see through it properly. After finishing the ritual, apply one or two drops of water on your forehead and drink one or two drops too.
Chanting a Gayatri mantra adds to concentration while offering 'Aarghaya'. Chant it 11 times at least. Gayatri mantra, is a mantra to the solar light of consciousness to awaken our meditative mind. It brings us the Divine solar power of consciousness, love and prana ; the supreme light of truth. It is the most sacred Vedic mantra, reciting at sunrise, noon and sunset.
You can even recite Surya Gayatri mantra.
ॐ आदित्याय विदमहे भास्कराय धीमहि तन्नो भानु प्रचोदयात् |
om aadityaya vidmahi bhaaskaraaye dheemahi tanno bhaanu prachodayat.
This process helps maintain sound health, vigour and self confidence.
Om Namah Shivaya !
