"The holy bath of the Kumbh is equal in piety to thousands of Kartik snans (baths), a hundred Magh snans and crores of Narmada snans. The fruits of a Kumbh snan are equal to the fruits of thousands of Ashvamedh Yajnas and lakhs of journeys around the earth'. ~ Skanda Purana .

It's believed that holy dip in Kshipra river gives Moksha. With the Shahi Snan, holy dip of Sadhus , Simhasth Kumbh Mela commenced for one month in Ujjain. The Ujjain Kumbh is celebrated when Jupiter ascends into sun sign Leo's quarter or the Simha constellation of zodiac, which is why it is called 'Simhastha'. The Simhastha is special in Ujjain as it is the seat of divine Shri Mahakal, the Lord of all times. The ritual of bathing in the holy waters of Kshipra begins on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra and continues on various dates until the full moon shows up in the following month of Vaishakha. Sadhus of various sects from across the country have assembled in Ujjain and mingle with ordinary people as they take their ritual dip in the holy waters of the Kshipra river. Members of the transgender community of India are taking part in Kumbh for the first time this year. Kinnar Akhada procession was taken out and they took holy dip for the first time in kumbh. The 13 Akharas of saints and seers will take dip one after another in holy water of Kshipra river.
