Varanasi is a sacred and oldest city located at the banks of the holy River Ganga. It's the spiritual capital of India. Every evening, as dusk descends, it's time for the Ganga Aarti to be performed at various ghats of Varanasi by the group of priests. It's a very powerful and uplifting spiritual ritual. An aarti is a devotional ritual that uses fire as an offering. It's usually made in the form of a lit lamp, and in the case of the Ganges River, a small diya with a candle and flowers that's floated down the river. The offering is made to the Goddess Ganga, also affectionately referred to as Maa Ganga, goddess of the most holy river in India.
Ganga Aarti is the magnificent event in the Varanasi that one must not miss. This beautiful ritual makes every moment of the evening very special and fills one with the spiritual thoughts. The Aarti takes place facing the river. The lamps are lit and circled around by the Hindu priests in a clockwise manner, accompanied by chants in praise of Mother Ganga. Ganga Aarti means prayer to River Ganga, which is not just a river in India, It is Divine Mother. River Ganga gives life in the form of water. The same water also removes sins when you take a dip in its holy water. It also gives liberation to souls. Ganga is a goddess which was originally living in heaven. When Saint Bhagirath did penance for the liberation of his ancestors, He was granted boon. It was due to Ganga that his ancestors got Moksha. Following the same tradition, Hindus offer remains of the dead ones to the river Ganga to attain moksha. The Ganga Aarti is a ceremony in which obeisances are paid to river Ganga as she is Moksha Dayni. 🙏🏻📿🕉✨💥💦🙏🏻
