ShivaLingam is the most common earthly form of Lord Shiva which is worshipped worldwide. Shivalingam contains the divine energy of Lord Shiva and worshipping it can gain the powerful blessings of Lord Shiva for a devotee’s life. Shivalingam represents the Brahmand and the infinite divine truth of the universe. Lord Shiva is said to be formless and ever-present at every part of the world; and in our consciences. Thus the Shivalingam is extremely holy. The most famous way of worshipping the Shivalingam is Abhisekham or the pouring of milk, water, curd, honey and bilva leaves, while chanting the famous mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya'. There are some interesting reasons why milk is poured over the Shivalingam during his worship. Milk and water have a cooling effect on Lord Shiva, who if angry has the ability to open his third eye and destroy the entire universe. Milk and water appeases the Lord and pacifies his rage. The offering of milk along with other commodities is considered an act of purity. It is an act of penance that harnesses positive karma and leads the devotee’s souls towards salvation. Milk is for blessing of purity and piousness. Yogurt is for prosperity and progeny. Honey is for sweet speech. Ghee is for victory. Sugar is for happiness. Water is for purity. One should not forget to offer Bilva leaves too!!. Love, Light & Peace ~ Hari Om Tat Sat ~ Om Namah Shivaya!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
