Faith Wins
A man of faith, I know, lives in stability and equanimity. Faith wins! Believe, and the world’s opposition will wither, as withered the fig tree at Jesus’ word! Faith wins!
You Receive What You Ask In Prayer
If you have not heard of the episode of the fig-tree from the New Testament, let me narrate it to you. It is said that one day, early in the morning, as he was on his way to a city, Jesus became hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately, the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked. Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, go, throw yourself into the sea," and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
Simple Teaching
Christian scholars explain this incident by saying that it teaches us the principle that religious ‘profession’ and observances are not enough to guarantee salvation, unless there is the fruit of genuine salvation evident in the life of the person. As the Apostle James would put it later: "Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). Sri Ramakrishna expresses the concept of faith with his characteristic simplicity which is actually profundity of the highest order: Rishis of our ancient India, time and again, offered the immortal prayer, "Tamso maa jyotir gamaya" - "O Lord, lead me out of darkness into Light." This light is the light of faith; this illumination is faith. The illumination has one message, "God, You are my protector; You are with me, You are watching me; You are watching over me." This faith of God’s constant presence illumines the soul of man.
Have The Faith Of A Baby
Unless one has the faith of a baby, one cannot have access to the Lord. If the mother points to someone and says, "He is your father," the baby believes it. The grace of the Lord comes to Him who has this kind of faith. The calculating and the doubtful estrange themselves from the Divine.
Om Namah Shivay.
