Open Your Heart And Expand Your Love

Photo: Open Your Heart And Expand Your Love :

There was a great Muslim saint named Rabia. She was going through a difficult illness in her later years, and two men came to console her.

One of them was trying to cheer her up, and he said, “He is no true lover of God who isn’t willing to suffer for God’s sake.”

She replied, “This smacks of ego.”

The second one tried, “He is no true lover of God who isn’t happy to suffer for God’s sake.”

Rabia said, “Even more is needed.”

The men finally replied, “All ¬right, Mother. You tell us.” And she said, “He is no true lover of God who doesn’t forget his suffering in the contemplation of the Beloved who is all joy.”

This is the truth. There is no suffering once our mind is set right, once we understand that God really does know what He’s doing, once we accept what He gives us. But because of fear, because of indifference, because of habit, we keep our hearts closed, and then who suffers?

We do. Because there is no greater suffering than lack of awareness, where you numb¬ your feelings, and there is no greater joy than the experience of opening the heart and expanding your love
