News (22.09.2013) #DEHRADUN: #Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna said on Saturday that the yatra to Kedarnath will resume on October 1. He, however, clarified that the final decision on it will be taken at a meeting of top government functionaries on September 30.

The CM said that only a limited number of devotees will be allowed to trek to Kedarnath from Gaurikund as the trek leading to Kedarnath was temporarily re-built and may not be able to withstand pressure.

"Many devotees may be wanting to trek to Kedarnath after resumption of the yatra but we cannot take a chance by allowing all of them," Bahuguna said. Bahuguna said that pilgrims from across the country will be allowed to fly to Kedarnath to offer their prayers.

He said yatra to Gangotri shrine has already been resumed on Friday after the 70 km long trek leading to Gangotri from Uttarkashi was cleared by a team of BRO jawans.

"Having resumed yatra to Hemkund Saheb on Saturday, we will gradually re-start yatras to other major shrines too including Kedarnath, CM Bahuguna said.
