This extraordinarily beautiful pose of Lord Shiva and parvati makes us think:
Before all of creation, Siva and sakti are joined in perfect repose, called Parasamvit, and portrayed as the Ardhanarishwara.
Then, after the subtle stir of vibration, 'spanda" when Siva 'distances' sakti from Himself , so as to emanate the manifest world,they are still attached!
and the whole Lila (play) is for Her to close up to Him , all over again...
Parasamvit and spanda are technical terms from the shaiva esoteric darsana
