Annamalayar Temple

Hi Shail, Last week had been to this temple one of the pancha bhoota stala. Located at the base of Annamalai hills the town of Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu , This place is approx 4 hrs drive from Chennai. This temple is one of the temples associated with the five elements, the Pancha bhoota stalas, and specifically the element of fire, or AGNI. Shiva is worshiped as Annamalaiyar or Arunachaleswarar, and is represented by the Lingam , with his idol referred to as Agni lingam. Devi Parvati is depicted as Unnamulai Amman. The temple complex is 10 hectares and is one of the largest temples in India. It houses 4 Gopurams (gateway towers) with the tallest being the eastern tower with 11 storey’s and a height of 66 meters (217 ft), making it one of the tallest gopurams in India. All these temples are located in South India with four of these temples at Tamil Nadu and one at Andhra Pradesh. In South Indian Temples we are not allowed to take pictures inside the shrine .camera or mobile is not allowed hence could not take a picture of the lord shiva shakthi.
