THE TIMELESS AND DIVINE VOW OF LOVE
Why is it the privilege of only Parvati to get married to Shiva?
This is a question that has crossed many minds, many times.
Although Shiva loves all His creation, and He is always available in some role or the other for everyone, be it Father, Chieftain, Guru, ideal, and of course a 'Friend" as he loves to be known; when it comes to conjoining in wedlock, it is only Parvati who gets to marry Him, over and over again, in Her manifestations as Sati parvati, or then as Meenakshi in their other episodes.
why?
when we come to the manifest world and the Lila of shiv parvati, we must understand that Parvati is different from any other Yogin or Bhaktin because she has a single pointed Devotion to Shiva, to the exclusion of all things, at any given time, her any action is full of Shiva Himself. Whatever she does in life, is based on Shiva. She worships not only when she is in prayer, but her whole life is a dedication to him.She is the Para bhaktin of the Universe, she is the yogin par excellence, she, is one who could teach even the Sapt Rishis how to worship Shiva.
But also, very importantly, it is Shiva Himself who has ordained this: He, will marry only parvati.
because,
at a time before the Universe was even made, at a time when even time did not exist, Shiva was immersed in His own Shakti, and there was no other. We call this parasamvit,or the formless Ardhanareshwar. In the highest spiritual understanding, it is of course true that because Shiv Shakti are inseparable, because Ardhanareshwar is actually one, it has to be that there is no other, nothing else.
But,at that time, This very Shakti wanted to create a Universe, this was the Matri Bhav, the great desire for Universal deliverance of the Primal Mother, It may surprise you that Shiva did not want this Universe, He was happy to be with His own shakti, and the Kashmir shaivism teaches that such a state of Nirakar of God immersed in His own Godhood can be longer than the life of the Universe itself!
But, Shakti prevailed and made Him agree to create a world, a family, a play, a Lila. Shiva wanted only Love, and shakti told Him this way the love would increase!
It is Shakti therefore, who actually created the world and all of life, for which we still call her Jag Janani or Mother Nature. In turn, she promised Shiva that she would always be with Him even when they assumed a role in the manifest world. And that is the Divine promise, that is the vow of the timeless lovers, that Parvati and Shiva always play out in their magnificent Lila.
Aum Namah Shivaye.
