Introduction to Durga Suktam ?
Durga Suktam is a hymn that is said to remove any obstacles in life.In many places in the Rig Veda,we come across verses in praise of the God of Fire ( Agni ) . In Taitreya Upanishad, these verses are combined into a prayer called ' Durga Suktam '. It is a very short mantra ( about two minutes ) but immensely powerful.
Durga Suktam is a famous mantra that is chanted in temples.Once you have learnt it, you will easily notice priests chanting it in temples.Additionally, you get to notice the errors and mistakes a lot of priests these days do .
In this mantra, it praises and describes Lord Agni a lot and describes How Agni guides us like a boatman. This mantra ends with the well- known Durga Gayatri Mantra - ( Om Kaatyaayanaya Vidmahe Kanyakumari Dheemahi Thanno Durgi Prachodaat )
Agni is the one who connects us with the divine. This is the reason why so much importance is given to Agni in rituals and worships.
It is also likely that the mention of Agni comes a lot in Durga Suktam as Mother Durga is personified to be intense like fire. She is shakti !

Durga Suktam for learning
Durga Suktam is an important part of Sri Vidhya mantra.
Personally, I have developed a deep devotion towards the divine mother since long. But I came about to learning Durga Suktam only recently. From my experience, Durga Suktam infuses you with the the presence of Shakti very quickly. You could say it is like a direct call to the Divine Mother.
Sri Chakra Yantra
My friends and I intensely did Durga Suktam chanting for the previous Navarathri days.We did Abishekam for Durga Devi while chanting the durga suktam for 9 times.Although simple and small scaled, the experience was immeasurable. We also had a sri chakra yantra placed alongside with Durga Devi.
( Sri Chakra Yantra is a powerful tool in Shakti worship )
Friends who had not been into spirituality deepy,or not devoted to the divine mother strongly shed tears. Some were filled with indescribable bliss. And even those who did not participate in the prayers , started crying by merely looking at the Durga Devi deity
It may take several chantings to get the feeling of getting connected to Divine Mother.Go on chanting durga suktam for about 3 times or 6 .. or 9 ( auspicious ).. Then you can inevitably experience Divine Mother's unbounded Love.
Best of luck.May the Cosmic Mother inspire us to learn Durga Suktam.
In addition, there are counterparts called Medha Suktam and Sri Suktam, chanted for Saraswathi Devi and Lakshmi Devi respectively.
