What does Shiva's Shiva linga represent?

I have seen Non-Hindus and some so called modern-secular Hindus mocking Shiva Lingam and it's shape without trying to know the true meaning and true representation of Shiva Lingam.

So what does Shiva Lingam represents?

Let's find out.

The phrase “Shiva Lingam” is made of two Sanskrit words - Shiva and Lingam. The word Shiva denotes Lord Shiva and the word Lingam denotes “symbol”.

So the word Shiva Lingam means “symbol of Lord Shiva”.

Actually the Sanskrit word - Lingam has two meanings - phallus and symbol. In Shiva Lingam, the meaning of Lingam is symbol.

Unfortunately, anti-Hindu scholars used the another meaning “phallus” to demean Lord Shiva and Hinduism.

The Lingam symbolizes both the creative and destructive power of Lord Shiva and great sanctity is attached to it by the devotees. It is unfortunate for some critics to have an imaginary invention on the image of Shiva Lingam as a male organ and viewed with obscenity, but had conveniently forgotten how a phallus could have appeared from the base. Moreover, since Lord Shiva is described as having no form, it is ridiculous to maintain that Lingam represents a phallus.

Shiva lingam also symbolises the cosmic egg form of universe which is born out of Lord Shiva and ends with Lord Shiva. - Rohit Bhardwaj
