Guruji — you were saying that everything is connected....
Student : Guruji — you were saying that everything is connected....
Guruji: If you look at human history and development of science, thanks to science we live longer, we don’t need to die young. I visit Hiroshima and every time I go through the museum, regardless of their rationale for dropping the bomb and regardless of who started the war — the fact is that tens of thousands of Japanese were innocent victims of a terrible man-made weapon. I am horrified how some scientists become very powerful in perfecting weapons systems. How can they fight with ammunition, and add more and more sophisticated weapons to kill ourselves? There is no prospect of confrontations between the US and Russia now. But many in the developing world think that the shortcut to superpower status is not to eliminate illiteracy, hunger, extreme poverty, unemployment or clean up the environment, but to develop nuclear weapons. The UK and France don’t point their nuclear weapons at each other — in fact they don’t know where to point as they don’t know who the enemy is. The US, too, may be confused. But Korea points it at everyone! India and Pakistan point it at each other. Scientists have a responsibility. When you design torture equipment and market it, you cannot be disassociated with the potential harm.
