LASYA : Dance of Mother Parvathi
LASYA : Dance of Mother Parvathi
The term Lasya, in the context of Hindu mythology, describes the dance performed by Goddess Parvathi as it expresses happiness and is filled with grace and beauty. She is believed to have danced the Lasya in response to the male energy of the cosmic dance of Tandava performed by Lord Shiva. In a literal sense, Lasya means beauty, happiness and grace. It consists of beautiful and simple dance steps which Mahadevi performs in order to attract Lord Shiva towards her beauty . When Lord Shiva becomes angry and starts the dance of destruction “ Tandava “ , in order to stop him Mother Parvathi seduces him with beautiful Lasya performance and ultimately Shiva gets calm down and joins her consort . Then they both Dance together and make love to each other . It leads to union of the dances of both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi (Tandavam and Lasyam).
