Nandi is the first and greatest devotee of Mahadeva and an assumed first son to Shiva Parvathi.

12 Jyotirlingas Of Lord Shiva's photo.

Nandi is the first and greatest devotee of Mahadeva and an assumed first son to Shiva Parvathi. In the samudra manthan episode, while Mata clutched Mahadeva’s throat to stop the poison, some halahala slipped from His cupped Hands. Without hesitation, Nandi, seeing His Master drinking it, He also consumed it. The Devas were shocked, the Lord had Mata, Parashakti swarupini to protect him, but how about Nandi? Nothing happened. Mahadeva looked at the dumb folded Devas, “Nandi is My greatest Devotee, all My powers are His too…..besides, who else does Nandi need when Parvathi’s protection and love goes out with Him always?”
