Shri Ganesha is known as Vighnesa, Vighanaharta , who removes fear from the minds, or Lord of Obstacles, whose purpose is to help his worshippers surmount every difficulty. He is Ganpati, the lord of all Lords. He is Sumukha – The Lord with a beautiful face. He is Vinayaka – The prominent Lord of all. He is Gajanana – The Elephant headed God! He is Ek Danta – The Lord with one tusk. He is Lambkarna – Long Eared God. Vigneshwara – Remover of all the obstacles. Kapila – The one with tawny coloured skin. In his hand Ganesha wields a noose and goad, and he holds a bowl of sweets. With the noose Ganesha can hold you close or capture and confine both blessings and obstacles. With the goad, Ganesha can strike and repel obstacles from you. Ganesha removes obstacles but he can also put them in your way to prevent you from going down the wrong path. His wide ears denote wisdom, ability to listen to people who seek help and to reflect on spiritual truths. They signify the importance of listening in order to assimilate ideas. Ears are used to gain knowledge. The large ears indicate that when God is known, all knowledge is known. Ganesha upraised hand depicting protection says, "Fear not, I'm with you! "
