ऊँ Maha Gauri Eighth Manifestation of Goddess Durga ऊँ
Goddess Parvati when she did penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. During the penance the Goddess had to endure a lot of hardships like staying in the wild forests, survive on leaves etc. Due to all of these Her complexion turned dark. So, when the Lord accepted Goddess Parvati as His wife, Lord Shiva cleaned her with water from Ganga that’s why she get whiteners as shine & got the name as Maha Gauri.Purity is depicted in this form of Durga.
She is like an eight-year-old girl. She is intelligent and peaceful, possesses three eyes and four arms, and uses the bull as her vehicle.The Eighth swarup of Ma Durga is Ma “Maha Gauri.” She is depicted as fair as a conch, moon and jasmine flowers. Her clothes and ornaments are white and clean. She has three eyes. She rides on bull She has four hands. The above left hand is in “Fearless – Mudra” and lower left hand hold a “Trishul.” The above right hand has tambourine and lower right hand is in blessing style. She is calm and peaceful. It is said that when the body of Gauri became dirty due to dust and earth while observing penance, Shiva makes it clean with the waters of Gangas. Then her body became bright like lightening. There fore, she is known as “Maha Gauri”
Maha Gauri Mantra
While worshipping the Goddess in the form of Maha Gauri, one must recite the following mantra:
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ महागौरी रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।।
Maha Gauri blesses all Her devotees by taking away all their past and present sins. One who worships the Goddess in this form is free from all fears. The Goddess provides Her devotees, great success, power and destroys all their distress. So, on Maha Ashtami, worship Goddess Maha Gauri and get blessed.
