There are various versions of Lord Hanuman’s Birth. Some scriptures consider him to be son of Shiva, while some consider him Ansh avatar of Shiva Himself. He is believed to be son of Vayu, the God of Wind and called as Maaruti and Pavan Putra. He is said to be son of Kesari and Anjana Devi , hence called Anjaneya. The Vedas talk of Rudra. Hence Hanuman is considered to be the eleventh Rudra.
Hanuman was born to the vaanars. His mother Anjana was an apsara who was born on earth due to a curse. She was redeemed from this curse on her giving birth to a son. The Valmiki Ramayana states that his father Kesari was the son of Brihaspati and that Kesari also fought on Rama’s side in the war against Ravana. Anjana and Kesari performed intense prayers to Shiva to get a child. Pleased with their devotion, Shiva granted them the boon and Hanuman was born.
Though Ganesha is popularly held to be the son of Shiva and Parvati, the Puranas give different versions about his birth also. In some he was created by Parvati, in another he was created by Shiva and Parvati, in another he appeared mysteriously and was discovered by Shiva and Parvati or he was born from the elephant headed goddess Malini after she drank Parvati's bath water that had been thrown in the river. Ganesha is the God who removes all sorrows.
Puranas indicate Ganesha is the younger son of Shiva and Parvati. In Shiva Purana, Kartikeya is seen helping Shiva fight the new born Ganesha. In Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Ganesha is seen as the younger one. The celestial muni Narada suggested to arrange a contest as to who of the two would circumambulate the world first. While Kartikeya sped around the world physically thrice on his carrier The Peacock, Ganesha did the same by going around Shiva and Parvati. Ganesha was declared the winner and got the divine fruit of knowledge from Narada. This victory made Ganesha the god of wisdom. Ganesha became the wiser and was consequently considered the elder of the two. Ganesha was also made the first to be worshipped as god by Shiva. ✨👁🕉🐘🌀🐒🔱🎨✨
