JAMMU, JULY 15: The Shivling in the Amaranth Cave has disappeared early this season. As per the reports, the Shivling melted on Thursday itself. The Amarnath Yatra which started on July 2 and supposed to continue for 48 days has stopped owing to the unrest in the Valley.
Global warning has been stated as the main reason behind the melting of Shivalingam. Even though the Shivling is situated at an altitude of about 14,500 ft., still the effect of global warming can easily be seen through these things.
Besides environmental factors, other reasons could be the scores of people visiting the cave on daily basis. In the year 2006, when the first batch of pilgrims reached to the cave, the Shivling was Copied from Jammu Links News comparatively small in size, following which the Shrine Board Committee constituted an expert team to dig more into this matter. The findings reveal that Shivling is melted owing to the change in climate of the Amaranth Shrine and the surrounding regions.
